Besides the additional features, it is very convenient to have control surfaces on separate channels. Makes setup very convenient and provides some additional redundancy. The basic 4 channel plane becomes a 7 channel plane with second aileron, second elevator, and separate nose/tail wheel steering. Larger planes usually run individual servos on each control surface. Gone are the days of pushrods and bellcranks running everywhere for widely spaced control actuation.
