Go Digital
The 811 is a great servo....
The digital servos are extremely precise..they get this with holding power and the fact that they a circuit that samples the the position of the pot more often. This means they center better.....Deadband.
Now I'm not 100% sure on the 811 but the digital servos are touted to have up to 5 times the holding power of an analog servo.
The 811's are great for planes up to the 120 size...the price is right too about $50.
You will notice a supreme advantage over the 531's
As for programming....the Hitec programmer only works on Hitec digitals not all digitals....
As for programming the servos....I don't want to start another war regarding the programmer...but in my opinion its only an advantage to you if you are using multiple servo on the same control surface....In most cases these are top end servos the 8411's with coreless motors and the likes with much more power....By using the 811's I don't think you're in that ball park....
As for the programmer....If you are only using 1 servo per channel I don't thing there is much save the fail safe that programs into the servo that the programmer can do for you....
Depending on your TX you can set servo speed, End points, Center (subtrim), and expos...I just see the advantage to the programmer. I know I will step on someones toes that spent the $120 for it...But Oh well.
The 811 servos are really the bom as far as a high performance sport servo. They have great performance and a sport price that gives you the opportunity to try out the advantages of digital technology. I don't think any of the other manufacturers come close in their products for price and performance.
A wise man once told me to put the best servos in the plane you could afford. This I have found to be the case over the years...The 811 has changed this philosophy because its such a good servo for Sport applications.
The major difference between the 811 and the high dollar and higher performance servos in the lack of a coreless motor. Other than that its the similar technology and I think they will be a great hit with the guys that are flying Sport planes and want to really have the feel and performance of a high end servo....at a sport servo price.
