I say cut the poor guy some slack, He may be 40 and live with his mother but at least he is working on something halfway cool. Misguided or not I hope he has success and does not end up killing himself in the process.
If you have ever seen the the Hiller pocket chopper or flying platform they were very basic but they worked.
