Default RE: E-FLIGHT BLADE CP

Just to share an interesting experience I had with my "Blade" yeaterday & today. After 6 Wks in Heli's (Blade) ,finally really hovering well. Multi,Multi repairs, but flying beautifully. Past Wk noted I couldn't get it to hover more than 2-3 feet altitude, so I figured the battery was going after all the flying I was doing. Went to the LHS & decided on a 1320 Mah 3 Cell LI-PO and the aerobatic kit E-Flite suggested. Put the Batt in first and flew it--Was shocked to find it almost uncontrollable (Was flying perfectly with the old battery). Was hovering about 3 Ft when it suddenly climbed to 6 Ft (in my 7 Ft garage), then down to 1 Ft, Etc--Without my touching the throttle after lift off !!-- Then also was very unstable especially in lateral cyclic. Not quite sure how I landed it in one piece.

In studying it, noted a load of "SLOP" in the head. the Flybar literally rotated a good 20 or more degrees with the Rotor Blades held still!! I replaced the center Hub & Rotor head set, and now have literally "0" Slop. Also put the 9 tooth pinion Motor & heat sinks in, and must say she flies like a dream--Smooth as glass-- Can hover rock steady at 'any' altitude with very slight rudder input and really minimal Cyclic input.

In a word, parts wear out, and Heli's are very sensitive to everything. Have been doing RC Fixed Wing since the '60's, but NOTHING in fixed wing is comparable to Helis--- Though a novice to heli's I'm totally addicted, and looking foreward to a Trex in the next month or so, and perhaps one of those Tandem Rotor jobs later this year. Have a Raptor 30 I built 6 Years ago, which has never been flown for various reasons. It too shall fly when the weather warms up.
