Most of the name brand ones are going to get you going a lot better than the RTR ones especially on these no name ones. They do come with receiver and sometimes servos in cluded but you don't have to get one with servos. They will work just fine.
FM is usually stronger than AM. Unless you're racing I don't think you would need to invest in anything too rich. I would learn as you go and get what fits your budget. Then at least you will know what you're paying for when you buy an expensive one.
I'd also looked used on ebay or in the classifieds as the radio/recievers usually go for about 1/2 once used.
