I've been thinking of getting a card reader, but since the printer did the same thing I held off. Big mistake obviously. But you can bet that I'll have one this afternoon.

That is what I bought when I got my cheap Canon. I haven't had any problems with it reading CF, which the Canon uses, or SM which an old 1.0mp Olympus I borrowed from work used. I wouldn't format the card just yet, the card reader my be able to read some of the pictures off of it.
