Great idea, except don't use water based glues because it can swell wood fibers. Use a high grade slow set epoxy. It will soak into the wood fibers and strenghten them. Good epoxy is typically strong and flexible enough to fill all the gaps and dings in your blades. After it's cured you will need to do a lot of careful sanding.
