GET RENTERS INSURANCE ASAP! unless you have absolutely no property and nothing to lose, it is a very cheap investment, $10-$15 a month. the cheapest policy gets you usually $100k - $300k in liability insurance and 20-40,000 in contents coverage. (nothing in your apartment is covered if it burns down, you are on your own. the owner of the building maintains coverage for the building, but couldn't care less about your stuff...)
