I will do some tests and see if there is a difference. My engine exhaust is about 2 inches above the level of the board. I built it when I was just starting with turbines.

I don't think the losses amount to much, you should certianly be able to tell if you are near to what the engine should be doing. My scale is pretty close to the exhaust, but has not melted yet!
The EE Lightning is the bees knees, I do beleive the Mick Reeves kit includes bicycle clips of Mick's own design.
