RE: R/C Trailer Question
2slow2matter, I was curious about your tow vehicle and gas mileage for your trailer set up. I have been using a Dodge Dakota pick up for rc plane hauler for 16 years, got my second truck in 2000. Have easily hauled 3 to 5 40 to 60 sized glow planes, flite box, tool box, electronics box, 2 large storage boxes for misc, a storehorse folding saw horse with hobby top, a bag of tent poles, and 2 lawn chairs. In the club cab area I put a combat wing, 2 or 3 foamies, and radios. In front goes lunch box etc. The back measures 6 1/2 ft long by 45in wide at the wells and 59 in at the walls. Truck has a cap and inside height is 36in. The total square ft is around 30. Now going to a Chrysler Town and Country with stow and go seats and a low profile trailer 7x12 feet with 40in inside height. Key in both set ups is the wing rack which is just foam wrapped pvc pipes. I hope to be able to get whole fleet (15 planes) in the trailer. Truck has 104,000 with out any maintenance outside of tires, battery, and oil changes. Hope new set up works as well and gets better mileage. Don't fly much here in the winter so van should be more practical year around.
