Your tail feathers look great. What I did for a template for the fins both upper and lower was to trace it out from the plans on a blank piece of paper. Then I cut it out of the paper and I had a good pattern. That way I didn't have to cut my plans all up.

I'm with John that sounds like a great idea for your flap. Keep up the good work!
