Stick with the light engines such as the ZDZ 40-50 or the DA 50 and you will
have a very nice flying, stable plane.

Greg
RCPilet,

I don't think the extra 10 ounces of weight of a lightened G62 (~5# rtf with all hardware, battery, ignition and pitts muffler) vs. a DA 50R (~4# 6oz rtf with all hardware, battery, ignition and pitts muffler) should make enough difference to warrant purchasing a complete new engine, when you have the G62 on the shelf. Lighter IS better, but the lighter wallet may be too big of a price to pay.

Besides, the G62 is more powerful than the DA. It is more of a high-rpm engine though. Stick to the slightly lower-diameter props and you will keep that engine in the happy range (7000 - 8000 rpm). The DA is a bit happier in the 6000-7000 range.

crap, now i need to put on my flame suit again...
I absolutely love my Zenoah engines. The G-62 will whoop the pants off any 50 that I've ever seen. The G-62 turns most 22-10 props in the 7200--7500RPM range, depending on the prop. You don't see any 50 engines doing that.

I guess, I'll put a G-62 on it. Same weight as the G-45--but more power.

I'll be using a JR8103 TX, so I have dual rates on all surfaces, but not triple rates. 65% expo is my prefered amount to soften the stick for high rates. I sometimes run up to 35% expo on low rates, just depends on the plane.

I can't see selling my Zenoah engines to go out and buy more expensive engines that won't turn as hard as the G-62. Just to save a few ounces on the firewall? Nope, not happenin' Not worth selling 2 NIB Zenoahs to finance a NIB DA50 and muffler. And it won't even compete with the Zenoah in a prop swingin' contest.

If the consensus is that the plane will do both 3D and sequence flying--I'll just have to put it together and go fly it. I'm hopefull that it'll be a nice plane. I'll most likely use JR4721 servos on it. They are around 150oz torque at 6V. That should be plenty.

Dual batteries on the RX? Is it big enough to warrent 2 batts?
