Andy,

Obviously the dual servo for split elevators is the way to go.

I abandoned the idea becase I didn't think my Hitec Eclipse could mix two channels for elevators.

Didn't like the idea of a "Y" cable until you mentioned an adjustable one. Never heard of such a thing. Could you provide more info?
