Air holes weaken the structure, so it's give and take. In addition, the engines are bolted to 1/4 inch plywood. Even if it's solid hard wood, what is the sheer strength of 1/4 inch wood?
The wheel is re-invented with every new project. Hats off to the guys that do it, their trials and tribulations help us all. I can't wait to see that bird fly. If it stands up, it will open the door to giant scale 3D electric planes.
