THIS IS WHERE IT GETS INTERESTING.....
When I first began this project I bought all the necessary parts. Trolled all the Skybolt posts on RCU I could find, so I thought I had a pretty good idea of what to expect along the way. Right? WRONG [sm=stupid.gif].
This is the muffler I bought and Moded for smoke: [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXNC71&P=0]LINK[/link]
This is the muffler I
SHOULD have bought: [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXKHU8&P=0]LINK [/link]
I could wait until March to continue or I could Mod [sm=idea.gif].
Guess which one I decided to do .
Construction Photos Cont.
1 & 2. This is what I was faced with

[sm=drowning.gif]. Yea, I could leave it like this but I have to try and fix it.
3-5. Since I had two cowls, I cannibalized the other one and cut the eyelets off. This seemed like the best variation (I know what you're thinking. How could this be "better?" All of my planes come out "unique" not by design, but out of necessity

). I then tack glued them in place with thick CA.
6. I now began the process of hollowing out the unneeded ABS. With this config I am definitely adding weight, so I'm mitigating that by cutting out as much as possible.
7. Fiberglassed all the major joint lines and went very sparingly on the epoxy.
8. Filled all the external seams with Bondo.
Note
The only reason I did not use the ABS Putty method is because I didn't want to wait around for the next two days.
9. Sanded the entire cowl smooth and mounted finished product to fuse.
