Default RE: First idle up setup

ORIGINAL: stimpey
Hi all.

Till now., I have been setting up pitch for learning, ie -2 to 8, with the mechanics set up to give the usual 5 point liniar curve. ( hover at half stick at about 5.5 deg. )

having flown a 3D set up I now want to get more from my heli and want to copy the -9 to 9.

Here in lies my problem. If I set the mechanics of the collective to allow for this -9 to 9 it puts the normal flight mode way off. Is it acceptable to then set the normal flight mode with the first point on the pitch curve at about 30, and then liniar all the way to 100 to still give the same hover points etc, ie a reduced throw.
If I set the throw to limit the collective, I still end up with hover at over 3/4 stick.

In Idle up 1 its great. All liniar and hover point where it should be etc,

when I bring the collective all the way down, in normal flight mode, I end up with -8 and hover at over 3/4 stick.

How should I correct this?

Thanks.
What TX do you have? Does it have pitch curve features? If so and you want to keep the initial NORMAL mode set up, just adjust your pitch curve to get the same pitch responses as the previous NORMAL mode.

Of course, if you are going to be spending a lot of time in IDLE UP modes then you may want to have your NORMAL near what your IDLE UP mode is (at least from 50% - 100% stick). That's to say ... in NORMAL mode set your mid-stick at 0 instead of hover pitch (just like your IDLE UP modes). The bottom half should be like your regular normal mode. Doing this does two things. First it gives you a mode to start your heli (if Throttle Hold is not used). Second it gives a better transition from NORMAL to IDLE UP if the pitch/throttle curves are similar at 50% - 100% stick.

If you keep the NORMAL mode set up (hover pitch at mid-stick) then everytime you switch from NORMAL to IDLE UP, you will get this annoying pitch change (hover pitch @ mid-stick to 0 degrees at mid-stick). This causes the heli to want to drop. Just be ready to catch the heli with the stick.

Either way is your choice. It does however need a TX that is at least capable of setting pitch and throttle curves.

Good Luck,
