The pictures are deceptive. The active runway is 700' by 190'. I think we have plenty of room. The treeline follows a creek that makes an upside down V with the pointy part of the V directly across from the pilot station and about 1000' at the deepest part. Now, all that being said, those trees have claimed their share of planes...[X(]
I've flown at just about every club and bootleg field in the area and can say without reservation the the Jackson club has the best facility. As far as being a park, nope. This is a dedicated RC airfield. No swingsets, basket ball, tennis court or walking/jogging paths. Just planes.
And yeah, it was cold, but a nice day. The crew you see in those pictures Jimmy linked to are the "die hard" flyers. That same group even flew off 3" of ice around Christmas 2004! THAT was a blast!
