[] I don't have any springs, but when I was in Wal-mart the other day, I was looking through the craft section and saw a little bag of springs for sale that are about the same size as the one you need. Even if they are a little smaller, they were bigger than the spring inside of an ink pen, so I bet you can stretch one a bit to make it work. You would have plenty to practice on to get the length just right.
