I just acquired a Rascal 110 from a friend. It has a Zenoah 34, and came with an APC 17 X 10. I want to put a Zinger on it, just because I'm partial to wood props, but I'm not sure what size would be best. This is my first gas engine. No 3D, just lazy, sport flying. Suggestions?
The Zenoah 34 sounds like a pretty decent amount of power for the Rascal. I would recommend going with something in the recommended range for the engine, but go for the low pitch side of the range. A lower pitch prop will limit your top end speed a bit (which doesn't sound like a problem) and will act as a bit of a brake on your landing approaches. This is actually an important consideration with the Rascal 110. It is so light, and has such a big wing, that it doesn't take too much power to hold altitude. With a big engine and a high pitch prop, you have a serious risk of not being able to slow down enough to lose any altitude when you want to land! A lower pitch prop can really help steepen your approach to something manageable.

I should point out that the person at Sig that designed the Rascal (and the wing) was really into gliders before designing the Rascal, so he used a combination of two airfoils from his glider days for the Rascal wing. Some of those glider genes show through once in a while.

It's an awsome plane though. I highly recommend it. It slows down so much on approach that you'll have all the piper cubs at your field passing you, but it's a clean efficient design so if you put a lot of power up front you can easily hit 80-90 mph on the top end. Put a big roaring engine up front and do some huge swooping aerobatics and you have a really awsome looking and sounding airplane in the sky that slows *way* up for landing.
