Default Himax 2015-4100/5400 or 2025-????

For an airplane like a 3DX, running Kokam 1200 or 1500 3s1p. AUW of about 11-13oz which is the better choice 2015-4100 or 2015-5400, or any advantage of going 2025-????

The 2015-4100 works great in the 3dx on 3s, the 5400 makes it even better at the expense of drawing more amps and it will run hotter which can hurt the motor. the 2025 is heavier draws alot more amps and has a ton of power, but in my opinion is too much for the 3dx unless your making an enlarged version.
Ive used both of the 2015s on the 3dx and I think the better choice is to go with the 2015-4100 in a D gearbox with 12x6 prop. The setup works great and with the 4100 you can use the pheonix 10 whereas the 5400 is better off with the pheonix 25, so you save some $ AND SOME WEIGHT

ps. I found that I liked the ThunderPower 1320 3s better than the Kokam 1500 3s. They were lighter, smaller, and seemed to provide better voltage. Same price at my LHS (about $50)

I am using the 2015-4100 with e-tech 3s1p li=poly with good success.

I have two models built from fan foam - (own design) 360 sq in - absolutely identical in weight etc..
After runing tests with my thrust stand - I settled on the 2015 motors -- 4100 and 5400.
both using th P25 controllers.
I have 4 sets of batteries -- 2, 1500 Kokams and 2, 650 3x2 packs (two pacs of 3 cells ) for these
the 4100 is on a C gear setup tha 5400 is on a D setup
Either plane will easily go vertically OOS in a few seconds (13 ozs AUW.)
the power for hovering , mid speed flight etc., is at a lower throttle position on the 4100 setup -
long flights are also better
the power response than the 5400 setup fades faster (draws more )
The 5400 requires a slightly smaller prop
I run 12x6/ 10/8 10/7 /11/6 (cut down 12/6) and have tried a bunch of 4.7 pitch setups
All in all -- the 4100 on a C gearbox still works the best .-long flights lots of performance.
The difference is not easily noticable - but there is a difference.
for 10-13 ozs-- I would buy the 4100 again.

stay away from the 5400 , thats a fan motor, or small prop motor. the biggest GWS gear wont tame that amp monster!

I use both motors on the GWS "D" gb.
The 4100 with 12x6 on 3S draws about 10A WOT using Kokam 3S 1500 very good power, no power when using the Kokam 2S 1500.
The 5400 with HD 1170 on 2S draws about 13A WOT with the kokam 2S 1500, good power to hover and vertical, can fly for 10+ minutes, very good power on the 3S 1500. My amp meter only reads to 15A and I'm not able to measure the static WOT amp draws.
I like the 5400 since I can use both the 3S and 2S packs.

Here's the specs That I got from the different motors....

HiMax HA2015-4100 GWS/5.3:1 GWS 11x4.7 3s1p LiPo 11.6 amps 25.2 oz.
HiMax HA2015-5400 GWS/6.6:1 GWS 12x6 2s1p LiPo 10.2 amps 17.8 oz.
HiMax HA2025-4236 4.3:1 Planetary APC 11x4.7 3s2p Lipo 20.2 amps 38.1 oz.

Keep the 2025 for bigger planes 40" plus, or planes that have weights closer to 1lb.

The 2015 on a 3S1P is the best all around setup I have found.... Good power, runtime, and saves $
