Default 3D Foamy KatanaS

Here is my www.3dfoamy.com KatanaS. It uses 4 HS-55's, Hitec feather receiver, E-flite 370 5400, Jeti 30. This thing took FOREVER to build. I had to cut it out using a hobby knife (since im 15 and don't have access to CNC machine )...This is the first one i ever built from plans.

Andrew T.

hey 3dandpatternflyer,
i am also building the katana. myne is slightly modified (shorter wing span bigger control surfaces and taller fuse) and it will be running an AXI 2212/34 (35 oz's of thrust) with only a 12 amp speed controler. this is wat it looks like so far:

Chris,

Good luck on the Kantana, hows the 3DX and the AXI coming along? Or has that been shelved in favour of the Kantana?
Cheers

hey thanks for the encouragement.

i am 12 years old. i am still flying the 3DX and it is awseome with the axi!!!! pulled the elevator off last week when i pulled out of a hover. it has ballistic power and only a 12 amp speedo. the coulor scheme is done with permanent markers like all my foamy models. i haven't gotten any further yet because i'm waiting on the servos until i can start.

looks good. I built one and flew it for about a month and just trash canned it recently. It is a nice looking foamy but it will need WAY bigger elevators and a bigger rudder. I added an inch on the back of the elevators and an inch on the end tips and it still wasnt quite as effective as my jeff williams e extra or e sledge. I also added 1" on to the back end of the rudder. After that it 3d'd pretty well IMO/
In these designs it doesnt take much at all to break the fuselage at the back just forward of the stab, mine must have been broken there 3 times and glued back together before I added a short length of CF tube along the back to help this out. flirting with the ground and wingtip hits will do them in pretty quick. Next time try a jeff williams design E yak or E sledge. they are WAY better just my opinion

What motor mount are you using for the Axi?
I have a Axi 2212-34 and a 3DX. I am thinking about building a Foamy Extra 300.
I had the Axi in a Funplanes and am ready to put it into something more ridgid and lighter.

All you need to do is let me know that you have some electronics gear to put in a plane. If you have something to fly it with, then I'll e-mail you back a Young Guns Gift Certificate that is good for any kit setup on the www.3DFoamy.com website! Pretty easy!

Rules:

1) 16 and under only.
2) Gotta have the radio, servos, and motor
3) Gotta send me some pictures when you're done.

Thats it. No strings....

Pass the word on to anyone else you might want to. email me at [email protected] with your info.

Levi,

How much experience do we need to take part in this programme? I am only just started learning on an IFO but I am getting my fingers slowly round that one.
I would love to take part once I have saved up for more gear, I am kinda broke after a complete IFO setup. Would you want us to use brushed or brushless motors.
Thanks!
Zimbo

Oh yeah, my dad has a digital camera and video so thats not a problem!

Chris,

What prop and battery are you using on that AXI to get 35 oz of thrust? If levi's planes way about 25-29 oz than that should make them go verticle!
P.S- I am looking for a combo to svae up for and put in one of Levi's planes
Thanks
Zimbo

most of his planes weigh under 15.5 oz
My katana weighs 14 oz and it has unlimited vertical, hovers at 1/4 throttle, and pullout at 1/2
