RE: 35% Scale Electric Foam Extra 300LX!
A few years ago, I spent a couple hundred hours redrawing the entire Hurley Extra 300LX in CAD... The original plans were hand drawn... []
So it is very much like that plane in the fuse design. Thats about where it ends. I loved the motor box design... but the rest is all completly new, interlocking, CAD designed, with formers, laser cut cross webbing, and the other stuff that is purly from foam construction.
The really cool part of my design is the wing design. It is using balde spars for the wing mounts... Similar to the Composite ARF style (Great flying planes!)
I've totally setteled on the Hacker B-50/11 or 14XL Looks like I can plan on about 21 lbs of thrust with out stressing the motor too bad (How often will you hit full bore with that much power on a 10-12 lb plane!!!)
I am about ready to send out a couple Fuselages to guys. I REALLY need 2-3 more people who can see the project to the end (Flying) to help out on making this the very best it can be... I think you should plan on about $400 for the motor and such... And it looks like about $600 for a killer pack. You can probably save some $ by doing different packs... Right now I am looking at the Duralite.... ($$$)

Step up guys. I swear, if I didn't have so many irons in the fire right now through the winter I would jump all over it. It would be kickin to be involved in this project from the start. For me it's not the debt factor, but a time issue. I have just over-extended myself timewise for the next few months and this project needs people who can get on it and stay on it.

I'd be happy to send it there. It's a large plane, but I have designed the parts to accomidate international shipping. If you could help out on the shipping part, that would be great.

RE: 35% Scale Electric Foam Extra 300LX!
Hello,
That's self-evident that I pay the shipping. I think we clarify the details by mail or?!
I am thinking already a long time to build a big 3D flyer with E Power - it would be nice to build the Extra.
Regards
Stefan

I'd be interested in beta testing, but wouldn't want to take up your materials...
Any chance you can email me the cad files or PDF and I can cut my own outta FFF.
I have a smaller glow extra to use for reference to make scale changes. Looks like a good winter project.

I took ya up about a month ago and haven't heard back.
I have a whole winter to keep busy and not much to do. Also got a few bonus checks coming and nothing to spend them on.
IM INTERESTED!

I would like to help out, but since I'm 12 I'm tight on money. (no job) This has really appealed to me because it dosen't look as expensive as a gasser, which would be way out of my reach. ($$$$$)[]
What do you think the least expensive rought to take is? (To cut down price but not performance)
Thanks,
Brandon

I'm ready Levi,
I just cleaned off one of my tables in my shop, it's large enough for this build. Good choice on the Hacker setup, I have a couple of Hackers on other foamies, scale knock offs, and they are the choice for me.
E-mail or PM me and let's work this out. I'd love to fly this one next to my 30% Cessna, 30% Ultimate and 38% Laser 200.

RE: 35% Scale Electric Foam Extra 300LX!
Well,
Financially here's my 3D setup awaiting a fuse...
Actro 40-5: $379, spinning a 20-11 or 22-10, hopefully around 20-22 pounds of thrust at 60-70 Amps draw.
Hacker 77 opto: $180 something
UBEC: $40
2 pcs 9S1P 2600 packs at $240 each for a total of 480.
I would guess somewhere around 1,000 - 1,100 bucks....
maybe a few short cuts can be taken somewhere....but this would ensure good 3D and good endurance

I have about the same cost figures for the motor/packs and esc...
Not too bad considering the performance, ease, and the cost savings on the kit and servos!

RE: 35% Scale Electric Foam Extra 300LX!
Thanks alot for the prices guys, I have do some money saved, and would love to be flying one But I'd need to cut down on the price as much as I can. Mabey assembling my own pack or something would save money?
I've always wanted to do big E-power because it's clean and reliable. (I don't really have to worry about tuning or flameouts while doing 3D.
Sorry to be bombarding with questions though

RE: 35% Scale Electric Foam Extra 300LX!
Levi,
Let me know what gearbox you are planning for your plane. I was going to use the Hacker setup but if that is where you are going, maybe I'll go with the HiMaxx and their planetary gear system, with Thunder Power packs and Castle Creations ESP to help you in showing the versatility of systems you can use with your design.
It doesn't matter to me which way I go, I just want to work with you the best I can to get this project up and running. I'm in your corner all the way.

Hi all,
I was browsing and I found www.MaxAmps.com . It looks like they have good prices on everything. Would any of their loose cells or packs work on Levi's Extra? (Lipoly of course)

Hello,
Levi have you any date in mind for the shipping of the prototype of the extra? A timetable would be nice for the planing of the winter-building-season

RE: 35% Scale Electric Foam Extra 300LX!
Just getting finished on some stuff here with the small 3D kits.. .have to get the shipped out first. Just got the second Laser cutter fired up, so now were cooking some foam!
I have a custom pack getting made... Falcon Batteries has the best quality Lipo packs I have ever seen... hand made here in USA, matched, and the best materials. The price I got from him for the 8s3p (7500 mah) is around $600... this setup on a Hacker B50-11XL and a 24-10 prop gets you 24 POUNDS of thrust! Thats at just over 2100 watts to the motor, so it's not getting pushed TOO hard. But WOT will be a rare thing with a 10-12 lb airframe... i can already see the jelousy brewing in the "Gas" only pilots eyes!
Anyhow, the fuse is almost ready. I'm going to put mine together real quick to test the parts out before I send some it out to a few of you to play with...

RE: 35% Scale Electric Foam Extra 300LX!
Welcome back Levi,
I hope I'm included in the group, I need to know the gear drive you plan to use so I can use a similar setup with the HiMaxx motor. My plan is to get a local hobby shop to work on price with me to add their name to the advertising along with a large "3D Foamy" insignia. I would like to match or exceed the output of your system and either use Thunder Power packs or contact your man for your packs, they sound sweet!
Let me know,
Ken

[sm=thumbup.gif] nice to hear this project is alive. I am still interested in building a prototype. I cant wait to see the faces of our stinker flying pilots then they see a big e powered Extra is hovering in front of them.

Ken,
Got you on the boards... along with Josh Glavin, Matt Putnam, Kevin Miller, and Anders Hoberg.
Those are the first 5 that I can do for free.... If someone can't do the project because of $ or time, let me know and we'll get some others to backup...
I'll post the construction pics as I build the first "Real" fuse...
