I am a mid level stick jockey that is new to 3D and electrics. I ordered a Ikarus shock flyer and VG6000 transmitter and have no idea how to setup Expo since I have always used basic 4 channel systems in the past. The VG6000 has Exponential for Elevator and Aileron, any ideas on how to set these up? I have heard it is good to use but how much and what percentage? Should I start with none and add a little at a time or just plug in 50%? Also, I have been using Aerofly Pro to train for 3D moves, I can hover and harrier with no problem on the Sim and am wondering how much harder it is for real? Thanks!

I use a futaba 9c. I put in -60% to start with, I am now at -80%. I'm not familiar with that radio so make sure that you set the expo up right. Some radio go positive and some go negative. Just make sure that the control surfaces move less with the same input as they did before expo. Expo will take out some of the sensitivity of your inputs. FYI...One of the guys I fly with in my club flew his without any expo at first and it was a hand full, it was a blast to watch he was all over the sky. Just play with the percentages until you are comfortable.

expo sucks, just set it up with as much throw as possible.

I use -60% on all of aileron, rudder and elevator ubt have the switches set so I can switch it off - but it makes the plane far less "twitchy" on the landing approach. (this is on a Hitec Eclipse 7 by the way)

Expo will make your airplane fly a lot smoother and will make it look a lot more under control. The movements will not be as jerky and it will be more predictable. I set up a switch so that I can adjust the throw during flight. However, expo is programed into either switch position, the percentage of the throws are just different. Maybe as I get better I will ween myself off of expo, but as for right now I really like it. I guess it just depends on how you like to fly. Anybody can make a plane go crazy in the air. Whats impressive is doing it and looking smooth.

The amount of expo is a personal preference thing. You can only try it and adjust to suit your tastes. On a responsive plane like the Shocky, starting out with the controls less sensitive is better.

Positive expo on a futaba radio would be nuts. Expo on a Futaba is (-) to desensitize the control surfaces.

I have an Airtronics RD 6000 and Expo is positive on it. I use +25% on my Tiger Sport. My Hitecs are negative. With a Flash 5X I have -35% on a Razor 400.

expo is a must especially when you are practicing low hovering, rudder is extremely sensitive,also set up plane with low rates until you get used to it, which won't take long, learning curve is pretty rapid..
