Default Need Help purchasing a 3D Foamy

I would like to build a 3d foamy. I really like the Edge 540 by 3d foamys. Problem is I know absolutly nothing about electrics. What I would like if possible is for someone to email me or post a message back saying exactly what I would need to buy. I have flown only glow planes and would love to try electric. Especially since it is something I could take out in back of the fire station and play around with. Please someone give me some suggestions Email is [email protected] Also if you know the best places to purchase from let me know also.

Plane 3d Foamiys Edge 540
Engine?
Speed Control?
Servo's ?
Batteries?
Charger?
Prop?
Anything else?

I already have the radio.

Well first off it's probably better to answere here that way everyone gets to see the answers.

First off whats your budget$$$$ I love spending other ppls money

Plane 3d Foamy Edge 540. Yep, as good a choice as any excelent kits.
Engine? brushed? brushless? outrunner? gear box? IMHO something like the Himax 2015 in the Himax gear box is as good as anything
Speed Control? Castel creations
Servo's ? HS 55's
Batteries? any of the good 3c LiPo's at about 1100mah
Charger? Triton
Prop? something around 11x4.7
Anything else? RX, i like the JR610. foam CA and kicker (3d foamy sells it) 5min and 30min epoxy, good sharp knife

BUT some one will probably have another opinion

I just ordered an Edge 540 from Fancy Foam. You can get just the plane, or you can get a package that includes everything you need to fly it, except the transmitter, charger, glue, and paint. I went this route because, like you, I have no experience with foamies. I have flown RC for many years but am clueless when it comes to electrics. I have heard that Fancy Foam has an excellent set of instructions, too. Good luck.

Same with www.InsaneFoamies.com They have a nice combo also for $299 High discharge lipo pack, Aluminum gearbox, ECT. Lots of good stuff. They also have a CD Rom Instructional video That shows the whole build to make it easier for the new to foamies builders.

I think he said he wants to build a 3DFoamy.

A great set-up as we my buddy Josh and I will show you is

Motor: Razor 350 brushless motor
ESC: Castle Creations Pheonix 25 speed controller
Receiver: Berg 5 Receiver (these are awesome)
Servos: (2) Hitec HS 55 for servos and (2) Hitec 56's for ailerons if you want really fast surfaces
There are others, Bluebird's, JR, GWS Pico I hear are good, but I havent had any reason to not use my Hitecs and I have had no problems knock on wood

Charger: Astro 109 (this is a great charger)

Batteries: Thunderpower 3S 2100mah Li Polys work great ( I have some Polyquest 1500's I will be trying soon)

If you want more info on what motor go to www.3dfoamy.com and look at motor options, they will tell you the prop and gearbox needed.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Steven

Ya I guess I should have put a budget in there somewhere. I am hoping to be no more than $300 and would like to be somewhere around the $250 mark. I would like brushless. I am going to check into Fancy Foamy. Is there a website for them? Anyone tell me? Never mind I found it.

Where do you want to fly and how much money do you want to spend. For a small baseball type field a shock flyer with 20 Oz thrust CD rom motor (hand made or ebay) and micro everything will put you at 5 Oz and rocks for small places. For my money an extreme flight Yak 55spe with recommended setup is good for sligtly larger places and the regular flying field. (there is a stevens aero dystraction in the photo that doesn't even copare with the others)....
