Default 3D setup suggestions for E-Flite's Ultimate

Hi,

I'm new to electric flight but not to R/C and would like to buy E-Flite's Ultimate. I've read that the original setup is too weak for 3D flying.

What brushless Motor, ESC and Li batttery would you reccomend for this plane to make decent (not extreme) 3D maneuvers?

Where to buy the stuff?

Thanks for your comments

If you take a look at the E-flite Ultimate 3D page found on horizonhobby.com, youll be able to check out the latest tips for the best 3D performance. Youll also find a link to the recommended components for 3D flying, including the proper brushless motor, ESC, batteries, charger and more:

Click "3D Set-up" on the left hand side (this new feature is also available for all our new E-flite offerings) and youll find:

http://www.horizonhobby.com/Shop/ByC...gory=3D+Set-up

This set up is perfect for all out 3D flying using the included 12x6 prop and 6.6:1 gearbox. Or if youd like to tone the power back a bit, the same set up using an 11x4.7 prop still offers great 3D performance for the new 3D pilot.

Good luck!

I used a HiMaxx 2812/0650, CC 10 amp ESC and a TP 1320mah li-po running an 11x7 APC slow fly prop. I have very good performance. Hovers at just above 1/2 throttle and has more than enough for brisk unlimited veritical. I could easily get a bit more power with more prop, but I have plenty of power and I like long flights. With the current setup I get 20 minute flights. The HiMax also comes with a stick mount adapter so it bolts just like the stock setup.

I did not go with the Eflite brushless motors because I am not a fan of gear boxes. Direct drive motors are much quieter and offer less maintenance, simply because there are fewer parts to break and wear out.

Thanks all for your replies.

three follow-up Q's:

First one I realize is a stupid one, but please bear with me, I new to this...

1) On these electric planes who's motors are powered by 11.1 volts, will I need an extra battery to power the electronics (servos + Rx) to 4.8 volts? Probably not, but how does the wiring goes so as not to burn the Rx with the 11volts of the Li-poly battery??

2) What else do I need to complete the upgraded setup as per HH suggestions? Will I need any connectors?

3) Since HH is out of foam safe CA, what kind of substitute glue could be used?

Jason, Is there a shortage on E-FLite's 1200 LIPO betteries? HH plus three other online vendors are out of stock on them.
