RE: Hl yak 55
When you hook up that ESC hook any 3 wires to any 3 motor wires, no color coding needed. If it spins the wrong way just switch two of the wires. Have fun with it and let us know how it goes!

Baught 3 of them, for $20 you cant go wrong. Running a rimfire brushless and 8 amp esc. My only gripe, my ailerons have an uneven deflection rate due to the position of the servo, nothing major though. Flies great, pretty tough as far as crashes are concerned.

...are you flying over ice??? Wow, don't slip.
What kind of connectors and stuff comes with the accessory pack that Hobby Lobby offers, and is their CA any good? I've heard some CA that comes with the plane stinks.
Also, what would be the better choice for this plane, hinges or hinge tape?

RE: Hl yak 55
DuBro sells a hinge tape Part Number 916... it's really blenderm. Perhaps the best hinge tape there is.
Your LHS might have some, Tower carries it, or you can [link=http://www.shopatron.com/product/product_id=DUB916/101.0]order direct[/link].
Simply bottom bevel the mating surfaces and apply tape to the top.

Hey guys. I just bought one of these off of a guy I know. He gave me the plane, motor, ESC, a bunch of servos, and a few props for $75. I just need to get some foam safe CA, the hinge tape, a battery, and a charger. Are Hitec HS-55's any good for this one? He also gave me a few HS-56's. I can't wait to get this one going, it's my first foamy.

RE: Hl yak 55
HS-55s are the recomended servo If you go to [link=http://www.hobby-lobby.com/]Hobby Lobby[/link] and go to electric aircraft and click on the yak 55, it will show you pretty much everything you need. You can find hinge tape somewhere on the site, but you can also probably find it in your LHS. As for CA, Hobby Lobby has that too.

RE: Hl yak 55
The HS-55s are good servos, so are the 56s. The difference is the gears... 56s have karbonite gears that are much less likely to strip like the plastic ones in a 55. With the stronger gears, they also are rated for more torque. Use either of them in your Yak, but if I had both at hand when I built it I would probably use the 56s on the rudder and elevator at least.... in the event you drop out of a hover onto the tail, a move known to strip a standard servo. Hello all,
I'm new to electric so ghee-grose turned me on to this thread. It looks like just the thing for indoors at the Golf Dome. Hello Maudib! Man you're into everything! I'm going through Nasville next week and I might have the time to stop at Hobby Lobby and pick-up 1 or 2 of these.

You stopping in Chattanooga by any chance?
BTW: if you are, don't go to the Hobby Town USA here...The only planes they really have in stock are the Hobbyzone/ Parkzone stuff...not very much of a selection.

RE: Hl yak 55
I'm not sure I understand your question... you have to put it all full stick to do anything? As in full throttle stick is what it takes to get the prop spinning?
I don't know how to program your 9C radio, I'm a Hitec guy. Check the manual. Make sure you have a neutral model to start your programming (i.e. no mixes, trims, EPA, etc.)
Your prop saver looks like it's on there right.

RE: Hl yak 55
On Futaba the throttle channel (3) needs to be reversed, and the endpoints set to 100% both ways.
Most ESC's have to arm... meaning you have to have the throttle all the way down when you turn on the ESC. Then some ESC's require you to go to full throttle (prop will not move) and you'll hear a confirmation beep, then yo move it back to no throttle. It will beep again. From that point if you give throttle it should start to spin.
If it's acting goofy, either the ESC or some servo could be plugged in the receiver backwards. Make sure the motor connectors are firmly pressed in place.
If neither of these work, you may have a problem with the ESC or motor.
The propsaver looks correct, but I normally use two rings... sometimes one allows too much movement and can fly the prop off...

Ok, I have my receiver and motor installed. I hooked up the battery to the ESC to try out the throttle. I pretty much have to put it at full stick to do anything. How do you program the TX for this? I have a Futaba 9C.
Also, do I have my prop saver on right?

RE: Hl yak 55
I've been able to make Hobby Lobby International, truely international. I've got my HL YaK 55 here in Iraq with me. The only thing that sucks is: it is allways windy here. When the wind is not blowing, I'm up to my pockets in paperwork or it is pitch black dark out.
I did get to fly it once so far, and had a blast.
Here is the post I put up over at the ProBros (edited for content )

Hi guys.
I had a great day yesterday! I went in to work around 4am. Not a lot going on, but I had to be there 'cause I'm the boss. Anyway, I leave about 0715 to go to breakfast. They finially had potato's instead of the hashbrowns like you get at McDonalds. I love potato's with cream beef gravy on 'em.
I get back to work...still nothing going on...and putz around until noon. I had a meeting to go to at 1300 so I leave at 1245. The last meeting at this place was supposed to be 30 minutes, and it went 2 hours. I was expecting the same so I told one of my soldiers that I would not be back in and left it in his capable hands.
I got to this meeting and low-and-behold, it only lasts about 45 minutes...hmmm, "what am I going to do now?" I ask myself. I search the trees and buildings for tale-tale signs of wind, as I'm in the wind shadow of a large building. Trees are showing just a little sway, gently back and forth. I make up my mind. It is time to go flying.
I run back to my hooch and grab the Hobby Lobby Yak 55 foamy that I finished up the day before. Grab a few batteries and head over to pick up one of my friends.
He is not busy, so I tell him to get in the truck, we are going flying.
We head out to the softball diamond, but it is occupied by a bunch of poags. Get this; they are actually playing a game of softball! On my airfield. No one has been on that diamond since I got here last October, and the day I want it they are using it. We drive over to a large parking lot and decide that it'll do. I don't mind it, other than it is a creek-gravel lot, like all the parking lots around here are.
I get the Yak out, hook up the battery and do a quick check. Throttle up and let it go. It zips right out of my hand and heads skyward. A little trim here, a touch there and it is manageable. I did not take the time to dial in any expo, and the surfaces are maxed out and no low rates dialed in either. To heck with it, who needs it?
Anyway, that little Yak with the HL Esky 400 out runner and APC 10xsomething prop is a good little combo. I have 3 Tower Pro 5 gram servos, a GWS 4 channel rx and a CC Phoenix 10. I flew it with a 1300 MaH 3s1P li-po and had a blast for around 30 minutes.
I balanced it dead nuts level and it does a good job there. I want to run the balance back a little to get it to flat spin and hover a little easier, but that is next time.
The only problem I had was landing on that damned gravel. First landing popped the chin piece off and my last landing (came in a little hot) broke it at the tail joint, forward of the stabs. Took it home and healed it, and it is ready for the next calm day (which come few and far between 'round here).
I cannot claim having the first profile foamy in Iraq, but I may be able to say I have the only two HL Yak 55's here, along with the only Mini Ultra Stick and Blade CP Heli....
I had a blast yesterday. First fixed wing flying since, what, May '05? Damn! I do stay limber with the Blade, but I love flying the fixed wing stuff.
Well, I thought I'd share the story with my 'Bros.
I'll post pics later.
Jon
P.S. I didn't even set off the early warning system. I guess the system software saw it as a bird (we got some big ass crows/ravens here).

Hehe, nice room.
Do you think it would be possible to find an indoor site? That way you can fly more. If I get accepted into the Air Force, I'll have a whole hangar to fly around in, as long as I'm not flying actual planes. Uh oh, I hope I don't get stupid enough to try 3D in some military plane.
