NEVER EVER FLY A GWS RECEIVER!!!! IM TELLING YOU THIS FOR YOUR OWN GOOD! There receiver cost me a brand new $150 Extreme flight Yak. I was flying around, perfectly fine, hovering doing all kinds of things, then the wings started rocking and it went out of control and hit a telephone pole. I then checked the range with the antenna down and all I had was 5 steps!!!!! I will be contacting GWS and making them buy me a new yak... Never use their receivers!!!

I have had one of their $25 receivers that would glitch so bad I couldn't use it. And another one that has worked very well on the same plane with the same crystal. sorry for your loss.

Yeah. I will never use GWS stuff again. I had flown that plane 4 times. It wasnt the plane because it flew great and had no structural damage, and it wasnt pilot error because when I pulled throttle back and pulled elevator, nothing happend! Just kept flying. GWS sucks!

You might want to check the antenna solder connection if the range is that bad. I have 3 GWS receivers and the only time I've had a glitch was when a solder repair I made on the antenna came loose, then it glitched like crazy. Otherwise I think they are great receivers and cheap too.

gotta agree with bdavison, I have 5 or 6 gws recievers, and never had any trouble with them. their servos work just fine also and all cheap. I did just send them an irate email after reading yet another troubled story of someone trying to fly a warbird on the stock motor..... but thats another matter

I have had ok luck with GWS reciever one I keep putting in my new shockys becasue its solid almost all of the time even indoors and another on I took out of my tensor and its in its box labled dont use in anything you want to keep lol

The small GWS receivers should only be used indoors or in a very "clean" area. If you used it for anything else, your on your own. How big is this YAK? GWS ain't replacing nothing.

I DID range check it before hand with antenna fully collapsed and it did fine. I then flew, it got out of control and when I checked it again, I only had 5 steps. The yak is an Extreme Flight Yak 55SP-E 30.5 inch. The receiver should have had no problems whatsoever handling it if it were ok. Thats two planes lost between me and my father because of a receiver.

That makes it sound like you used the same receiver that had possibly already crashed one aircraft, if this is the case it needed fully checking out before being used again. If you did not you have only yourself to blame.

I have 4 GWS receivers and never had a problem with any of them (35Mhz FM in the UK).
In the states your channel spacing is very cramped due to the number radio frequencies used by various activities.
Maybe we are luckier in the UK as we do not require so close spacing.

By the way have you checked out your transmitter, you never know.

I've had similar problems, you should stick with dual conversion receivers. They are much better at rejecting interference. FMA and Hitec both make good, small, lightweight, dual conversion receivers. The only downside is the cost, somewhere in the $55+ range, but you get what you pay for.....

No, Im no GWS rep.

I do have GWS recievers, flown them bunches of times. I do have a bum one, but it was caused by a "pilot error" crash. Now it will randomly jump to full throttle and when it does it centers rudder, and wont let you move it. Unfortunatly it didnt exhibit this trait (even after testing) until I was flying it, and then you can imagine the chaos that ensued with a foamy at full throttle and no rudder response indoors. It ended with a head-on collision at full throttle with a set of bleachers, which promptly devoured the nose off my plane.

Do I blame GWS....no.
I blame a bum reciever. The plane has been repaired, and is now sporting a new non-glitching reciever. All is well. Chalk one up to experience.

Bear in mind too that the GWS recievers were designed to be flown at short ranges. If you get the plane WAY out there...dont be surprised if it goes nuts.
The other thing that concerns me, is you said the wings started rocking....tip stall? A reciever doesnt cause that.

Its quite possible you did get a bum reciever, and that caused the crash. But one bum reciever doesnt mean they are all bad. Sorry to hear about your plane though.

I like the part about "this receiver cost us 2 planes." I would have tossed it after the first crash.

Is there such a thing as a "frequency scanner" that shows radio activity on the various channels? I guess it's a little off topic, but at least semi-applicable.

I dont blame GWS im just saying the receiver I received FROM GWS sucked. I checked it VARIOUS times after the first crash and worked fine. I then stuck it in my Extreme Flight Yak, and checked it more: still worked just fine. Wasn't too far out, maybe 15 foot out when it went nuts. Wasnt tip stall because when I pulled the throttle back, it kept going.

Small park flying GWS receivers are dicey, the NARO ones are a gamble. I bought 3 and after using 2 I returned 2. I kept one but that one somehow does not glitch in one motor set up but might on another. I currently run it in my Micro Whizz now with no glitching at all, even when I fly far.

I flew my friend's Funny Park on the Naro 6 ch receiver, he handed the plane to me and everything locked. The plane came straight down! When we picked up the plane nothing worked, when wedisconnected the battery and reconnect it everything worked again.

Their bigger 6/8 channel receivers are not bad, a friend uses it and he has not any glitch problems. I just bought the new slim 8 channel one and am using one in my Micro Jet. It worked well but did glitch once, the motor kinda like cut off for a split second, other than that its okay.

i two lost a plane to one it was 30 feet out from me flying inverted when it jumped to full throtle went straight up and then straight down and i do blame GWS but i got what i paid for and i wont waste money on there recivers again but i love there servos.

Wow. Never heard a bad thing about them until now. If had had read all this I would have avoided them - next time I see a really bad review I'll take it with a grain of salt. I got about 5 of these GWS 6 channel receivers. Never had as much as a hiccup out of any of them. Says right in the instructions 1500 ft of range so I keep the model in close. And one of the models is an EF Yak. Pretty funny, but these receivers have outlasted 2 (TWO) CC speed controllers... <shrug>

I fly GWS planes, receivers, crystals, servos, and ESCs. As well as several of my flying buds. We occasionally experience a glitch or two, but it mostly seems to happen with my brothers Hitec Electron 6 and Hitec 555. I think my brother had some trouble with a GWS receiver, but it wound up being the crystal not plugging in securely.

I'm sorry you've had bad luck with them and if I had lost a plane due to a faulty receiver, I probably would feel the same as you.

I have had nothing but trouble with the GWS receiver 4 and 6 channel. They both cost me a bunch of prop shaftes on my EF Ultimate. Now that I fly with HT Electron 6 no glitching on non of my planes and I fly the things as high as I can see them. Sorry hear about your lost.

dual conversion all the way. electron recievers form hitec are good. planning to use 555 in my first foamie.

with dual conversion if you can see it, you can still control it. if you lose sight of it odds are you were still in control all the way to the ground.
