Default Control Throws for foamy

I hope this is a simple question but, how do you get the increased control throws for 3D? On my first two planes I used a 1 1/4 inch piece of plastic as an extension on the ailerons. However, I have noticed that a lot of folks use the half inch servo arms. How do I get the required throws using these? I have a Futaba 6EXA and have already set the EPA to the max of 120%. The control rod is connected to the outermost hole on the servo and is connected to the inner most hole in the control horn. Thanks.

The servo should rotate at least 45 degrees either way from neutral. So if the length of the servo arm (measured from the center of the servo to the outermost hole) is the same as the distance of the control horn (measured from the hinge line to the closest hole on the arm) you should get exactly the same deflection of the surface (45 degrees). This is generally a good amount of throw for the 3d Foamy planes. In fact, with the epa set to 120, you should get even more than 45 degrees.

Upon further experimentation here is what I have found: I am using the flaperon feature on my 6EXA as it is the only way I know of the mix two aileron servos without using a Y-connector. With this feature turned on the throws are decreased to about 25-30%. Is there any way to allieviate this without getting a Y-connector because I would really like to use the flaperons. Thanks.

Hi there

The only way is by extending the control horn on the servo. I also have the 6exa and there is no way of disabling the flaps without a y harness. So as you said, you are stuck with decreased throws 0f 30%. Glue some extension on the horns - i have seen other people do that. Or why not use the y harness??
