I've read a lot of posts being tossed around as to which motors to go with and all that good stuff... I am leaning towards the Hacker C50 12XL but am not to thrilled about the price from Hacker. Anyone got links to anywhere I may be able score a good deal on one... or even a used one in good condition?

I will recommend not to go for that noisy expensive Hacker...
Buy a really good outrunner, I recommend Actro 40-5 which has more than enough power for the Funtana, and can power bigger planes if you like to. Runs cool, top quality, no gearbox.
My opinion...

Thanks for the responses!
Being purely a nitro head.... will that AXI 5320/80 give the same ballistic vertical performance as seen in theis video??

I am estimating the plane to weigh about 10 pounds and will be using composite main and tail gear to try to keep the weight down.

You meant 5320/28?
I have a lot of the smaller AXI, from the smallest up to the 2826`s, but unfortunately I have none of the bigger ones. You should have a setup at 2000Watt out to perform like that, but never expect the motors to give you such control over manouvers like Kyle get, he is an awesome flyer

I wouldn't expect the motor to give me control over the manouvers... I've seen many videoa and Kyle does know his stuff when flying! Makes me jealous... I'm looking to have the veritcal performance and power to hang the plane on the prop and hover at 1/2 throttle...

As I said, have no experience on the big Axi`s. But I have a feeling I would have chosen the 5330/24, and bought a taller undercarriage to suit a 20-22" propeller ( http://www.carboncopyuk.com/acatalog..._Products.html ).
I am quite jealous too when I see what Kyle can do![Big Grin](https://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
And if you can afford it go for the Actro, suits more models and propably runs cooler than the Axi...

Sweeeet! Thanks for the link! am looking forward to getting this monster together after I figure out what I'm gonna use for a power plant. Would like to hear some more opinions and thoughts on motor combination to get a 10lb plane to hover at 1/2 throttle. More info the merrier!

My son has an axi 5320on his funtana 90.with a 10s1p skyvolt pack. We have not flown it yet but on the ground it puts out 2200 watts on a 20X11 apc E. It will have all the power it needs to do anything and to save weight the Kokam 3200 cells will put out more than 2 of the tanic 2450 packs put together and weigh less the flight times will be only 2/3 of the time so if they get 12 min you would get about 8 min
But when it comes to great 3D we all know that lighter is better and with the Skyvolt packs we can protect the batteries from discharging too far or over charging and balance them for long life. If you want to know more about the Skyvolt system here is a link
