Default New Mini Ultra Stick

Hey, yet another mini electric. In the new MAN I see the latest advertised, the Mini Ultra Stick. Has anyone tried to order yet? (from Horizon) Hopefully it will be a no nonsense 3D capable plane!

Hi,
Thanks for your note.
While the Mini Ultrastick is quite aerobatic, and can do some 3D manuevers in the hands of a good 3D pilot (Torque roll). We do not consider it a 3D plane, and do not market it as such.

It is intended to be a very versatile aircraft for sport aerobatic pilots. It has very docile and carefree handling. It is an aircraft for 'everyone', and easily accepts a wide range of power systems (the Park 450 is my favorite).

It is just a lot of good plain worryfree fun! The 'Hershy Bar' wing makes it very easy to handle.

Hope this helps clear up the intent of the aircraft!

I love my Ultra Stick 60 and I have an E-Flite Park 450 ready to go for the Mini Ultra Stick when it becomes available. Looks like the perfect sport/park flyer.

Thanks for the info David. Steve.... off topic, but what engine did you go with on your 60 size Stick?

I've got a Saito 82 on the US60. Plenty of power and balanced perfectly without adding weight to the tail.

Do I have to use a 450 outrunner, or would it fly good with a Park 400 inrunner?

I already have most of the stuff, just need a motor and li-po battery (and of course, the airplane!)

Saw one at the hobby shop today, wish I waited to buy my Fliton mini Extra, the stick seems really well built and thought out.

airborne, don't use a nicad. They are too heavy these days!

My friend and I picked up the mini ultra stick at our LHS this afternoon. I just bought the plane only, since I have a katana mini to finish. My friend bought everything needed. 450BL motor, the eflite servos, extensions, props, lipo battery. He already has a charger and a receiver. The plane cost $89.00. Add up all the stuff needed and it comes out over $450.

The plane is extremely light, well done and will go together super fast. If you're planning to put a glow engine, you'll definitely reinforce the firewall.

It's for his receiver.

He still should use a lipoly even if he insist on using a loud messy glow motor!!! lol

I got my Mini Ultra Stick. Completed it in one night and flew it the next. This is a really cool plane. I've got a Park 450 outrunner on the nose and it flies great. Tracks great in the air and lands easy as pie. Don't have flaps yet. I want to hear how they work on this smaller version of the Ultra Stick. I'm using a 7 channel receiver so I've left the option open. IMHO, it would be a shame to convert this to a glow plane. It's just so good as an electric.

I CAN CONVERT IT TO GLOW FOR WAY LESS THAN $450.00 AND HAVE JUST AS MUCH FUN AS A HIGH DOLLAR ELECTRIC.

Ernie,
I was at an indoor electric fly-in at the UniDome in Cedar Falls, Iowa last Sunday.
The reps from Horizon were there and had one that they demo'd.
It looked like it flew just like a bigger stick.
Very stable and smooth looking.
No wild 3D maneuvering but the sport flying maneuvers they did looked just like a bigger glow model.
Spektrum radios were very popular as well.
I think a couple guys from my club ordered one of the Stiks from the LHS guy right there on the spot.

RFan;

What weight do you think it will come out as? (an electric). Want to compare it with a glow modification. (Just for Kicks).

Darrell;

It's been suggested that you turn the KBD CAPS off.

Thanks for all the fun replies and info guys! My style is a bit more pattern than full 3D, so I know I would enjoy this plane.

For receiver, Nimh are still a lot lighter and more powerful than yesterday's nicads.

I think a Norvel .15 would work well and is lighter than the TT .15

I got a chance to look at it last night. Looks just like its larger nitro cousin. Should be a really good intermediate plane for someone that is just past a trainer.

Also got a look at E-flite's new Brushless outrunners for .40 and .60 sized airplanes.....those are some HUGE brushless motors.
