Its there for a reason, I had the same issue with another plane/motor combination and I made a hole in the firewall to enable it to fit flush. If you don't have a firewall type and its a motor mount issue only the buy spacers and longer screws to compensate for the spacers. If you can't find a spacer then you can stack washers in place of. If you have an Ace Hardware in your local they have quite a good selection of hardware that would be helpful. I hope this helps if only a little, good luck.

Use a dremel or drill bit and make the hole bigger. If you don't have either, use an exacto knife.

I tryed to use an exacto knife on my first flatout but soon realized that that would have taken way too long so i had to bust out the old dremel; i showed that motor mount whos boss

I took it off. It's only there to let the prop adapter fit. It doesn't hold anything on. If you're mounting it in front of a firewall you just take it off, behind a firewall, leave it on.

I read either here or one of the other r/c sites where someone had removed it and it came apart in flight. Can't find it now, been too long ago.

Really? I've gotten over 200 flights on it with no problem. It's flown about 3 different planes and survived crashes that totaled the plane.

Just take it off. It doesn't do anything. The set screw isn't even on there very tight.
