Default First electric?

Hey Guys,

I want to learn 3D on an electric before I attempt it on my funtana 90.
I saw an ad at Chief Aircraft for an:

Eflite Ultimate Fx 3D ARF with
-(3) S75 Micro Servos
-Eflite ESC
-Park 400 Outrunner Motor w/ Mount
-THP 1320 11.1v Battery

I know nothing about electrics so bare with me.....
But are these components decent or are they putting cheap components to keep the package price low?
And if the parts included in the deal are good.... is it a bargain at $229.95?

Thanks in advance for any information.

Check www.InsaneFoamies.com There are nice combo kits and optional Hacker motor upgrades. Watch the videos and read some of the testimonials....

I'd also take a look at these:

Surf the electric forums a bit. You will pick up all sorts of useful information.

Try the Allure from www.rcxplanes.com, I'm on my 2nd one. I flew my 1st one so much that I wore it out.... Great customer service, and very knowledgable. I just ordered one of the new FoamyFactory planes. It looked pretty cool, but I haven't flown it yet. It doesn't look nearly as durable as the Allure, but I figured that if I was careful, maybe it would survive for a while. Good luck, you should get a lot of responses to your question. Don't skimp on equipment or the planes, a few bucks saved here and there doesn't offset the frustration of a poor perfoming plane.

another option for a lesser expensive disposable plane...

the Hobby Lobby Yak 55 and the Esskay brushless.....

not top of the line... but it is fun to beat up... and they are pretty durable....

To answer your actual question. The components listed are all very good. ThunderPower, Eflight S75's, 400 outrunner. You will not be disappointed.

Hey Everyone,

Thanks so much for all your responses. I really appreciate. I didn't want to blindly buy the equipment without knowing anything about it. I will check out the website's you guys suggested before making my decision. I'm more interested in getting good equipment right now as oppose to getting a great ARF. I gather that I probably will end up trashing a few foamies before I get good at 3D. At least with good servos, motor, etc.... I can transfer the parts to another foamy if I I get into a bad crash.

LWatson,

Thanks for the response, at least now I know that the equipment in the package is good.
Do you think that it's worth the price that they're advertising?

Thanks once again everyone, the advise is quite helpful.

It's a pretty good price. I've purchased planes and parts from them in the past. Their pricing is usually lower than some of the other catalog houses, but not always. Shop around. You can usually do better on ebay.

www.allerc.com is also a good source for components, I've gotten plenty of batteries and props from them.

Nice website... I wished I checked it out earlier. I went to my local hobby shop and they're selling me the same package deal except for $20 more.
Realizing that I don't know anything about electrics..... I decided to buy it from my LHS despite the higher price. Just in case I need help setting it up, they'll be more willing to help me since I bought it there vs. online with no one to help me.

Thanks again.

Thats not necessarily a bad thing. The $20 extra you spent might be worth it to have a local way of keeping things running. Support your local hobby shops and they will support you. Id rather spend a few extra bucks at the local hobby shop just to have someone I can go to "face to face" if I have any problems.

My thoughts precisely..... I can't count the number to times my LHS has pulled my head out of my rear when I first started this hobby.
Eventhough I've been flying for a while, moving to electrics is uncharted territory for me. I know the instructions on the equipment outlines what needs to be done to setup your plane, but there's nothing like the advise the pro's give you at the LHS. They always come up with better methods of setting up a plane.
