I've had a Flatana for about a season and although it flew decent outdoors, it's about ready for the foam hangar in the sky. It hasn't been abused but it's probably got a full bottle worth of CA in it for repairs. Seems if you look at it the wrong way, it develops another crack in the fuse. Anyway, just looking for a replacement in the same weight range( 9-11 oz) so I can use the existing motor/ESC. Maybe something that flies as good but is a little more resistant to normal abuse. Just looking for some suggestions as there are so many out there, you could spend hours and hours pouring over the threads in this forum. Thanks.

Let me suggest the E-flite Byp Yak. I've flown most of the flatouts, and a handful of other ETOC level designs (Reflection, Nikitis Animal, etc) and this one blows them all away.

RyGuy, Can you elaborate just a bit on why the byp yak is much better? Also how long is the build. I only ask because the Flatana was an annoying assembly and took me way longer than the 2-3 hours they said it would. I usually double what a manufacturer says it takes but the the Flatana was like triple for me and I didn't really get stuck on any steps. Maybe I'm getting slow in my old age.

It took me less than an hour to get the airframe together. Everything's already done for you. Carbons on the wings, ailerons hinged, fuse together, elevators halfway done, all you do is slide it in, glue the stab in place, and hinge the other side (with tape!). Rudders easy too, it uses CA hinges that are already in the rudder with slots cut in the fuse for you. Electronics installation is tougher, due to the pull-pull elevator and rudder setup and the fuse thats hard to run wires through, but not bad. Took me only about 3 hours to get done. The hardware for servo linkages is top notch. Oh, and the removable LG that slides between two bulky chuncks of lite ply is nice and strong too.

Wait till you get it airborne though. Hands off KE, KE loops with no coupling, rolling harriers are straight forward, no turning, and can be done aileron only. Rolling loops are as easy as rolling circles on most planes. Harriers are rock solid, no rocking to speak of, especially inverted. Inverted tail drags are way too easy with this plane. Roll rates good for a foamy, and best of all there is no flutter at high speeds like most foamies. Full throttle dives don't do anything to shake the plane. Hovers are also pretty solid. I've flown a couple that were easier, but many are worse. The big wing helps counteract torque; antitorque rolls are as easy as regular torquers.

I love this plane, in case you can't tell. My suggestion though is to run a couple strips of packing tape down the side of the fuse. It's strong, but if it does break it will be the fuse right behind the wings.

If your running the Rimfire, Id highly recommend the ChargerRC CR-1 or CR-2. Great airplanes, and fly way better than the funtana.
You will have to modify the aluminum motor mount, but combining a Rimfire and the CR-2 will give you a fantastic plane capable of indoor or outdoor flight.

You can have this thing literally built in a matter of minutes. You dont even need a table. I built mine on the bed while watching tv. Its got tabbed construction so it goes together really quickly. Its all 6mm depron, and extremely durable.

I can't seem to find specs on the cr-2 on their site, especially weight. The cr-1 is too heavy for the rimfire I would think. The rimfire is good power for the Flatana at about 10 oz.

I thought it would be too heavy too. The one in the video has the rimfire on it, and a 3cell 640mah lipo. It weighs 14oz, and has plenty of power. I run a 9x4.7 APC prop on mine. Works great. It will hover and climb from a hover. Always had plenty of power for any 3D stuff I wanted to do. In that video, I never got it above 3/4 throttle.
Its the CR-2, just without the SFG's on it.

Well I ordered the CR2 today. Will post here when I get her airborne. Thanks everyone for their suggestions.
