Default New to electric, suggestions?

Well, I tried posting this on another board, but have had naught for answers, so I thought I would try posting here.

I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if these were good deals or not?

[link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0161p?&I=LZ0358**]Flat Out Reflection[/link]

[link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0161p?&I=LZ0429**]RCUniverse Bipe[/link]

I'm partial to the biplanes and haven't had one since I learned on a Bipe .21 sometime in the late '80's and have always been keen on them.
Is that radio a very good one or should I buy a better one separately?
Is there anything else I'll need if I get the combo?
Price isn't really an issue as long as it comes to under a thousand Cdn. (So then I guess it is an issue...)

Thanks for any input.

Both of those are best suited to indoor flying. No matter how you go I suggest a brushless motor and ESC suitable for the motor. Brushless motors are more efficient and more powerful.

Take a look at the Eflite Ultimate for a nice outdoor plane, or even better the 3D Foamy bipes(Advantage, Pitts and Tiburon). Also look at Fancy Foam's Ultimate.

You will be much happier much longer with a better radio, but the 4 channel radio will certainly work.

I love bipes too.

Anyway, do a search for foamy bipes on Google and look for 6mm depron planes for outdoor flying. 3mm is for indoor only IMO, it's just too flimsy.

Hey thanks for the links and the info on outdoor/indoor foam thickness, WhtBronco. I'm not sure if I will get to fly inside although I might have the perfect place on campus here where I work. It's an athletic building with an Olympic size track and an indoor soccer field in a building called 'The Hangar'. So indoor is not out of the question.

The reason I linked to those Flat Out models is that they are the only combo's that I could find that looked liked they had everything that I would need to build and fly it and not require me to head to the local hobby store.

You say I would be happier with a different radio. Could you elaborate and suggest something better?
I guess what I am really looking for is a 27-35" wingspan electric 3d foamy that can fly indoors, but mostly outdoors and comes with a complete package of accessories (radio, servo's, brushless motor, batt's, esc, and all finishing doodads) for under a thousand dollars Canadian.

Sorry if I wasn't quite clear with my OP.

Thanks again for any input.

Fancyfoam sells a combo with their Ultimate bipe. You need to get the radio and rcvr separately but that is no problem. I was flying my 2nd FF Ult this morning and it is the best flying electric plane I have. I flew the 1st one for a year and gave up on it after I beat it to much with dumb mistakes that were not its fault. I also fly a FF edge, Copperhead Extra, and 3d Foamy 40" Suk. The Ult is the easiest to hold in a hover, does eveything I try, slows to a crawl and doesn't rock the wings like crazy.
I also fly a bunch of 3d nitro planes . My Mojo 60 /Saito 91 is the best of the lot.

Ofnsve, sorry for the delayed response.

Anyway, the reason I suggest more than a 4 channel radio is the ability to mix control surfaces makes flying a lot more fun as well as easier at times. It also let's you run 2 aileron servos without a Y cable and this is where the ability to setup mixes really begins when combining ailerons, spoilers, flaps.

I don't recall the exchange ratio for US to Canadian money, but under $1k shouldn't be a prob. I got all high end stuf for my new 30" balsa 3D profile and it was under $450 including 2 batteries, without Tx.

3dfoamy.com has all the parts listed for what they suggest and they recommended parts are not expensive perse. fancyfoam.com sells complete packages and very nice planes as well, no Tx included. Check out the planes from those 2 sites and pick you like best. You'll be pleased, they all fly great from what I have heard.

I plan to place an order for a 3dfoamy.com Advantage bipe in the next week. I prefer bipes, they just fit my flying style better.

Once again, thanks for some good info.
I've done a lot of research and I think I am going to go with [link=http://www.spektrumrc.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=SPM2460]this[/link] radio. It has what I am looking for I think and it's only $199.00, around $225.00 Cdn.
I'm still unsure of which plane, but that's ok as they aren't the expensive part of this venture, lol.
I have Real Flight G3 coming in the mail any day now and will order the radio soon I hope.
Anyhoo, I'll let you know what does happen.

Well looky [link=http://www.hobbyzone.com/rc_planes_eflite_byp_yak.htm]here[/link]. It's a combo with the radio that I wanted. Anyone have any thoughts on the E-flite Byp Yak 3D ARF? It's one of the planes that I had in my top 3 to get so maybe this is a sign. I'd like to know ease of construction, durability, flight characteristics and any other firsthand thoughts on it rather than just the reviews and vids I've researched on it if anyone is familiar with this plane.

The E-flight Byp-Yak is excellent. Check out the thread in RC universe, E-Flite BYP-YAK by QQ .
The plane fly's like it's on rails.

Some additional thought on the Byp-Yak . The kit could be better as far as the cross-bracing for the wings.The Byp is not durable at all , It breaks easily. It's a competition plane for mostly indoor flying.But that's why it fly's so well. I would build another-one I was so happy the way it flew.

As for the Byp-Yak's durability, it is the only foamy that has no one weakness. My planes always seemed to be destroyed by one weak area. The Byp Yak is fine all over, no one wak spot, and is the only foamy I've owned that can take my version of a rough landing, generally a KE wingtip or elevator tap, or an inverted landing, without needing any glue at all. However, overall, it is a weak design because it is a competition plane, so any nose ins or anything of that matter will cause more damage than other foamies.
