Yak 54 Shock Flyer set up
I am looking at getting a Yak and wanted to see what would be a good set up. I don't know much about motors or speed controllers but wanted to see what everyone thinks is a good match for this plane.
Thanks
Jeff

RE: Yak 54 Shock Flyer set up
i have had this plane and several of the other generation 2 shockys. my favorite being the f3a. well i have used a couple setups. an axi 2204/54 an axi 2208/34 but the best for very light weight and power has been the Ikarus motor beleive it's called the s-2 motor, it's the one the sell that works with the verable pitch set-up. it has an hollow shaft. i use an cc 10 esc and an apc 8x3.8 slow flyer prop!! i use from 430 to 700 mah 3 cell packs and get from 8 to 10 minutes of flight!!! for radio gear i use an gws 4 channel micro receiver and 3 blue bird 306 servos. i has got one at about 7 ounces ready to fly and man does that motor pull it!!! i kow the ikarus motor is a little more expensicve than most other choices out there but for the power, quality and reliablity it can't be beat!!!! give it a look and see what u think!!!

RE: Yak 54 Shock Flyer set up
you could definately get this plane light maybe with some cirrus servos on the tail and one hs-55 on the front although tonite i was readin up on my specs and found out suprisingly that the e-flite s75's are lighter and more powerful than the 55, and maybe an axi might be a good choice for motor i havent had a lot of looking around for this plane specifically but just check out specs on the motors and seel whats best maybe something 1100-1400 kv range blueberg recievers are really good and light too!! speed control phoenix!

RE: Yak 54 Shock Flyer set up
I had a shockflyer yak 54 (untill about 8 months later when i decided it was to smashed up to fly anymore) and it is the best plane I have ever flown! My setup was an Axi 2208-34 with Castle Creations Pheonix 10 and Apogee 830 2s batteries and Hitec HS 50 servos, which have plenty enough power for the most extreme maneuvers you want to do, (including a full speed wall with a 3 cell Lipo). This is a great setup for this plane and it has unlimited power. There are no other recommendations that I would make.

RE: Yak 54 Shock Flyer set up
The best set-up Ive seen so far on the shockflyers is
Axi 2204/54 with a GWS DD 8x4 prop
Castle Creations Thunderbird 9
Any 2 cell 640mAh lipo
Berg 4L Rx
Futaba 3110 on ailerons (you need the extra torque)
For rudder and elevator...if you want ultra light weight go for the little BMS-303's or some Dymond D47's, just be gentle about bumping the surfaces.
If you dont mind the added weight...the 3110s will work on the tail surfaces too.
This setup will have plenty of power for any 3D you want indoors or out. AUW will be between 5-7oz which is the point at which the shockies fly best.
Ive had this set-up on the Superstar, F3A, Extra and flown it on a Yak.

RE: Yak 54 Shock Flyer set up
I have a Great planes Cap 580 (Depron) with Axi 2208/20 and Castle creations ESC powerd by 640 3 cell Kokam it's awsome and flight time is about 9-11 mins. Power to weight is about 3-1.
Just looking to put varible pitch prop setup on. I will keep you posted.
Its the most fun you can have with your trousers on !!!
Should work on Yak but reinforce wings with another carbon strip.
