Question for all of you fancy foamers.. I have an itch to try one of these, but am wondering which one would suit my needs the best.. First, I started flying RC about a year ago and learned on a Goldberg Eagle II. I'm not a pro, but didn't hurt myself or anyone else with the eagle.. Built a Ultra Stick 60 this winter, and have not flown it yet.. In the meantime I've spent COUNTLESS hours on RealFlight 3.5 and have downloaded several foamies.. too much fun..
Anyway, my questions are: Is it nuts to try something like this on low rates at my experience level? Secondly, are any of them easier or more difficult to fly? I'll be using it outside on calm wind days.. No inside flying in my future.. I like the looks of the big ultimate bipe..
Thanks for any advice!!
John..

Go for it. I know Mike Hammel, the owner of Fancy Foam, personally, and he's a great guy who makes some great planes. I've flown more than half of them, and am yet to find one I didn't like. I love his Xcalibur, best plane I've ever flown. His outdoor planes are great too. No reason why you couldn't fly one. Just turn the rates down a bit and give her a toss!

My only suggestion is to keep it light. Basically use components comparable to the recommended components in weight. When foamies are light they fly great, the heavier they get the worse they tend to fly. I love foamies they are a blast. If you can handle ailerons, I don't recall the Goldberg Eagle II off hand other than I know it's a trainer, then on low rates most foamies will be fine. I have a Fancy Foam Ultimate kit here, it's a very nice kit.
I have not yet been able to fly it, but I just finished a 3D Foamy Advantage bipe. I think the 3D Foamy planes fly a bit better due to their G-Force wing design that incorporates a bit of an airfoil, but that only seems to effect traditional flight. In 3D flight the G-Force wings don't seem to matter as much. The Advantage I just built is not currently available as I recall, but the pics will show you the G-Force wing design and the very rigid design of their planes. I have pics in a thread on page 1 of this forum, just look down a bit lower than this thread.
Check out [link]http://www.3dfoamy.com[/link] before you buy. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at their offerings. The Super series of kits are a good bit bigger at 45" wingspan, but only a little heavier and they handle wind better than most other foamies.
Good luck and have fun. Foamies are great.

I had the Ultimate and it flew very well. It did great flat turns using only the rudder. A very nice flying plane. One thing that you need to keep in mind, and this is true for most foam biplanes, they won't turn without using the rudder. Once you get used to that, they're great. Go with their recommended equipment, and you'll be fine.

Don't be scared to fly the Ultra Stick 60. I'm 13 and i took some advise from some of the elders at my flying field.
They said that the pilots who go out and and are scared to crash will have a better chance of crashing.
And the pilots who just take it easy and not worry so much don't usually crash that much.
Works for me
By the way, i'd try one of the Flight Flex models by Great Planes. ( I'm buying the Yak 55
)

i found the fancy foam edge to be as easy to fly as my modified slow stick. i just set the throws to what i am use to and increased them as i got used to the increased throws. low rates set to what i am use to and high rates for a little increase that i can try when ready. i can switch back if i want during the flight. good luck.

just my opinion, but i think the fancy foam edge is a better flyer then the typhoon, which i feel is overweight. everyone has their favorites and they are not all the same ones.
