I have just received two new radios. The first is one of the new 2.4 Ghz rigs, from Futaba and it is a honey. Say goodbye to the pin! The other is so unusual that I have to talk about it. My son gave me a birthday present, a Plantraco radio, with one of the Shoestring kits and all the things that make it work. Well, fortunately I have learned, late in life, to read everything until I completely understand it, and then to still ask questions! The upshot is that unless I had gone to the Plantraco web site, and gone down to the place where they describe the actuator (servos!) install I would have really made a mistake. There are little magnets, one for each actuator, that you not only have to place on the coil, so that the servo arm goes to neutral, but you also have to glue it there! And they recommend NOT using thin cyano.
Lucky for me that I did go there, because they are right! The magnets are INCREDIBLY SMALL! You need some non-metal tweezers, with needle noses on them, to place the magnets and then to put a tiny amount of glue on them to secure them! I am off to the races, and have flown the Shoestring already (outside). It is so tiny, that it causes disorientation for me when it gets more than 15 feet away! I am going to bring it indoors, into our large conference room, and see how it goes there!
Just a word of advice! The two radios have performed flawlessly, the 2.4 rig is super and so is the Plantraco, which, by the way, transmits on 900 Khz.
