I did the same as Graham with the landing gear cuffs. I didn't use the black tubing.
Here's where I mounted my switch. I mount it so it can be turned off on the outside.
There is two locations already laser cut on both sides in the front.

thanks, is there a trick to tightening the axle with the wheel pants on? i even tried hoging out the one so the retainer part would fit but then the tire rubs, so if just slid over the threaded part i cant figure out how to hold it while i tighten the lock nut????

will have her done tomorrow, still didnt get the pants on, i filed out so the rectangle fits in the pant but that moves the wheel closer and hits the pant, like it needs that space of the thickness of the wood glued in for a proper fit, i'll figure something out or not use them[&o]...

has anyone felt the need to use bigger washers on the back of the firewall for the motor?? i used the ones that came with it but was curious, i know on the 45" some people were crushing the firewall and having failures, so i used bigger washers on that one and just went snug to where the wood "dented" a bit, just wondering if anyone has had any issues of the smaller washers coming through easier, would change them now while its still apart if you think so

I have used all the stock gear including the washers for the motor mount, I have had 30 - 40 flights mostly all out 3d and had no problems what so ever mate

here is it, all done, turned out nice i think, hope to get the charger this week and fly next weekend.... wasnt sure about putting all the decals on but once started i thought they looked good, so there she be

curious, is there a way you guys hold the motor from turning to tighten prop? i used a screw driver in through the back of the spinner, it worked but i am thinking there has to be a less barbaric way...

well i got to fly finally, i was getting interference though on my range check, so i was cautious to fly, i got a glitch once in a while so i only flew twice and i kept it up high in case of hits, i really like it from what i can tell, i changed recievers to a pcm and ran my antenna a different way and will try again this coming weekend, i can tell this is going to be very fun to fly, just need to figure out whats up with my set up

I am buying an extra 58 the lhs is recommending a 1000 watt axi 80 amp speed controller two 3700 mah batteries a flight battery with JR radio equipment.

Would you give me your exact setup, I am not sure if you also have two batteries or one with a flight battery also. If you wouldnt mind being more specific with your set up. Your videos are awsome!

Default RE: EF 58" Extra-300 BUILD THREAD -- ELECTRIC!

thanks for the comments,

My setup is pretty much stock setup, the motor is the Torque Revolution 4014T/570 Brushless Outrunner and Speed Controler the Airboss Elite 80 Amp ESC.
I am running a HItec 5925MG on the rudder and Hitec 225MG minis on the ailerons and a single on for the elevator.
The batteries are Flight Power EVO25 3700mAh 5Cell lipos and these contol both the radio gear and the motor with no problems at all, I get 12 mins flying times with these!

The AXI you have been recommended would do it but the torque motor is recommended and can produce another 400W on top of the AXI and they are not that expensive, if you want the ultimate setup go for the torque set up, this motor was designed for this model, so it makes sense!

hope this helps

i too have the stock set up from ef's site, you only need one battery to fly like graham says, i bought two so i could fly again while one is charging....
i am heading out again this weekend with my new reciever set up, so hopefully took care of the glitches....may take my vid camera also

i am impressed bigtime with this plane, it literally flies as well as, if not better, than some bigger gas planes i have had, amazing, its a torque rolling monster too, not sure if its the electric motor or what, but it rolls right away and gets going good, its awesome, the best plane i have had to pratice torque rolls for sure, with the speed and reaction of the 225's, it's a blast to do...and it does knife edge with no coupling, i was shocked, if i get slower in a high-alpha and add more rudder, then it starts to move, mine towards the canopy, but still no big deal....i am sold on this puppy, going with me everytime i head out to field!!!!!

Hi,

I believe the ideal glow engine for this plane is the Saito 82 so I dont know whether the 91 may be a bit over kill, I dont think anyone else has tried it with this engine.

Here are some glow vids if they are any use to you:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMrl6OYRgx0 (saito 82)

There is a video comparing the glow and electric extra and the electric has the power over the glow version, I just can't find it at the moment mate!

thank you graham
yes in the video you shown there is two , electric and glow, planes.
but i am a four stroke addict. 91 is only a little bigger and eavier than 82, with more torque. i hope it will be fine. anyway i am building other two planes now. i think extra 300 must wait. i have to know, because i would prefer do not buy another engine.
ciao francesco

I took my Extra out on febuary 24 and had great time on the first pack. I had a flying buddie take some photos and it was great. Everyone just loves this plane. It gets alot of attention. Check out the photos. The wreck and some pictures before the crash.
Well then the sad part . Just as I was installing a new battery and getting ready a person showed up who another guy who flies with time to time knows him. I'm now taking off and getting airborn and do one full circle around the park and then I have nothin. It just keeps going and going until splatters into the ground . It turns out that that guy had the same channel as me and didn't even asked if anyone was on his channel and turned his radio on. I couldn't believe it. I was furious. Both of them packed up and split.
The lipoly is fine and the motor seems ok to. I will get another and now I will be switching to Spektrum. Why couldn't it of been one one the smaller planes or my Eflite 260 I brought out.
Check out the carnage in the last three photos.
I did get a new red white and blue one and a Yellow and Blue as well. The Yellow and Blue came with the new one piece gear instead of the two piece.
