I have one of the scoops but it should have 2 right? They only gave me one. Maybe I'll just use one I guess.

Yep they are supposed to come with 2 scoops.

That just made me hungry for Raisin Bran!

they are extremely thin; i wouldn't be surprised if you actually have two pressed in together so tight they look like one. In any case, one is plenty, you can put it on the opposite side of the esc so as to leave it in unobstructed airflow! Making a custom replacement out of a piece of an adequately shaped blister pack is also possible.

Someone either here or on rcg posted pics of custom made hand laid cf scoops he made for his Katana MD by laying cf over the uncut scoop; one could easily use a single scoop to make both sides.

I just read your post aflipz and you hit the nail on the head. Earlier I went to work on the 260 and found that they were indeed pressed together. lol I installed them both. Good call on your end. I have my motor mounted and put a Xoar 12-5 wood prop on it. I'm curious to see how it works. I'm waiting for my carbon spinner still. I'll fly without it if it does'nt come in before I'm finished and install it when it arrives. I've been taking my time on this one. Could've had it finished in a coupe of evenings with ease. I added a few of my own graphics I had tonight too. Not sure if I like them yet or not. I'll post pictures of it tomorrow for you to check out.

Here are a few shots of the stickers I added. It looks ok but I'm not thrilled with them. Not too bad I guess. Have'nt worked on it tonight becouse I just got my new Nitro truck and had to play with it some.

Got a PA extra from Chief on the way. I went round and round debating putting a 380 Watt motor in there and finaly talked myself into getting the Hacker A30-12L. Ordered a CC 45 amp Phoenix with the interface cable for hopfully easier programing. Fingers crossed! I'll post my results how the motor does swinging 13 and 12" props.

I stuck with the Thrust 30 from PA becouse everyone says it is truely the perfect setup so why fight with success is the way i see it. I'm using a Castle creations ESC. I always have used them and like them the best plus I can program it any way I like right from my computer. Does'nt get any easier than that.

I might have gone with the thrust motor but Chief has gone the extra mile stocking so many fantastic kits and combos and parts for so many modelers, including my self. Hacker doesn't try to snow you with BS saying a motor will run a 13" prop when all evidence suggests that it will not. Don't know about you but I have 7 acres of flight area right outside my back door and most evenings in the summer I'll get in 3 to 5 flights. Pushing a small motor to power a largish plane will cause a failure in too short of a time for me. And I don't really like the flippy floppy stuff, I'm more tuned in to big grand manouvers that end with a torque roll right in front. I plan on staying on the throttle a bit more than just a flip flop to a hovering stuff.

Are you implying that saying the PA thrust 30 being able to spin a 13" prop is BS? It's too bad you didn't give it more faith you'd be surprised, this thing LAUGHS in the face of 5 consecutive hard flights, bring it on! I once put 14 flights through it barely stopping at all between flights. This was on a plane 2oz heavier than this one. It was no hotter at the 14th than it was at the first. Have no fear it's not weak either, on a 12x6 it'll hover the 260 at half throttle and have plenty of punch out, unlimited vertical... And, for the thrust junkies it easily handles a 13x6.5 apc.

Of course your setup will work, but don't go giving people the impression the thrust 30 is inadequate when it really is not. I wish you could fly your setup then have PA give you a thrust 30 to try and compare so you could see what i mean. I know where you are coming from believe me, i have seen my share of planes have suggested power systems that weren't worth crap but with IPA's it just the opposite; it's all but impossible to get a more balanced setup.

Hi flips, hope you are correct. I'm just nervous that I know I'll never ever send a motor back to Australia for warranty repairs. And untill otherwise convinced I'll believe thats the plan. If my plane turns out to be a dog or the Hacker blows a gasket, I'll post the appropriate info here and get me a Thrust engine instead. In the mean time if my Hacker wears out the plane there's a Que Que 49" Yak with my name on it and my Hacker will fly that 42oz plane when the PA Extra is done. Thats my theory anyway

Either way, you will love the plane, and it's built very strong so you got that working for you. Are you going to run 3 cells?

I agree, I've seen recommended set ups that were very weak and not what you would have wanted but it's not just aflpiz saying the Thrust 30 is the ticket. Alot of people say it is so I went with it. I have a very good feeling that they are right about this motor and I'll soon find out for sure. By the way, thanks flipz for all your help and advice.

Yes three cell Lipos, and 4 cell a123. For props I'll start with Xoar wood E props. That will help reduce some weight rather than the APC's. I have a wall full of glow props that I plan on carving down to make good E-props as time allows. A bit more nose weight will also allow placing the pull pull rudder servo back a ways and make more room for replacing the battery. There's 3 people flying 5 PA planes in the area. Ones a young feller who's tried his best to break his Extra. All are very happy with their planes.

Sounds good, I think with that motor being 770kv instead of 905 you are probably going to end up with a 13x7 xoar on there. Looking forward to your reports.

You are welcome, and thank you as well sb13!

You think that Xoar 12-5 I have will be ok with the Thrust 30? Others are running APC 12-6 props right so I should be ok.

yeah it will be fine, you'll even be able to 3D, but it will lack top end, and require you to keep your stick higher than someone with a 12x6 to maintain the same cruising speed, which will be a bit less efficient. Start with an 8 minute timer, let the pack rest, check the voltage and go from there.

Ideally, you should get a 12x6 and a 13x6.5 if your packs support 36+ amps

They will support it so maybe I'll get one. thanks. BTW Have you tried a wood prop yet?

Yeah i have been using xoar props for over a year now. I love them! Their only drawback is that they are very sensitive to prop strikes.

I have a CC 35 amp ESC so you think the 13-6.5 will be ok or should I stick with the 12-5? I have a Watt meter but thought I'd ask in case you know the answer.

The A30-12L is listed at 1000 kv. The XL is the 770kv motor. I'll start it with a 12x6 and go from there.

I have the Thrust 30 I bought and installed not the other motor you mentioned above. I just ordered a Xoar 13-6 and a 13-6.5 so that gives me 3 props to try now. I'm using the Evo batteries, 2200's I think they are. 3 cells. Continous is 35 I think with alot higher burst. I'd have to go look at them to give you the exact specs.

sb13 you have nothing to worry about, put that esc in decent airflow and it will take it just fine. I love castles for that, they exceed their claims; I have a slowfly bird (e-foamies yak) with a power system that draws 12.6A wot, it's on a phoenix 10, with a small bec, and it's running 4 6 gram servos two of which are digitals. I fly 4-5 packs in a row on it every time i get out there, tonight i was practicing spins and tumbles; long full throttle climb, full servo input and a lot of throttle on the way down to keep a high load on everything, solid as a rock. I've seen a guy fly an EDF at 18.5A on one of these, and not in bursts either (i think he had it in the ducting with the shrink wrap removed and the safety off though)

I have a phoenix 35 in my Katana MD at the moment, it's heavier than the 260... no worries on 13x6.5; use the usb programmer and set current limiter to insensitive (not off, but the step below, which retains protection but is less likely to trigger for no reason) the new evolite 2200's (green wrap) can be used on the 13x6.5 easily but they have a lot of punch, you are probably going to like 12x6 best of all props.

altavillan in that case since it's the 1000kv you should be GOLDEN with a 12x6, under the premise that the motor has more torque than the t30 (it's bigger, so it should right?) and is a bit faster your loads thrust power speed whatever you want to call it should be great, at the cost of slightly shorter flights and 38 extra grams that your 260 won't have any problems carrying around.

Sweet! Thanks for the input aflipz. I just finished making a bunch of upgrades and mods to my T-Maxx so I'll run it tomorrow and get back to the 260 tomorrow evening. Still waiting on my spinner. Really all thats left is to do the linkages. I'm not sure if I'm going to use the Z bend on both ends or not. They always seem to have a little more play than I prefer. We'll see how it goes.

No problem buddy,

I use the Z-bends on both sides; I like it so much that i retrofit all my planes with them now. There isn't any slop; the trick is NOT to open up the holes on the cf horns; you want to sort of wiggle the z's in there carefully and they are tight as a drum. On my first MD i had openned up the outer most hole on the cf servo arms and ended up with all kinds of slop. Fortunately, the outer most hole was too much (had to reduce atv to get max throws) So i moved them to the 2nd hole which is not enlarged and it was fine.
