Default Great Planes Edge 540 E-Performance Series EP 3D ARF

Anybody flying this plane or have it on the bench? Did a search and came up with nothing. I have a 35-30-1450 motor and 35 amp speed controller that would work good. Here's a link. [link]http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXMUX5&P=SM[/link]

Hey, my first post.

I really enjoyed reading through the many pages in regards to the Revolver. Those guys have done a great job of supplying great information and I really appreciate it.

I was wondering why there are not any posts on this plane here. There is a 3 pager on RCGroups. Stalled a couple of days ago.

I just ordered this plane yesterday and hope to get some more tips on building and flying this baby.

I will attempt to use an extra stock set-up that I have for my Mini Pulse.

eFlite park 450, I guess it is a 33-28-890
22amp esc
Lipo 11.4v 20C 2100, 2150

I get 7 min flight with this set-up, maybe less with the Edge 540 41"

Any thoughts anybody?

Thanks

I've been following that thread Greg. I'm interested in the smaller one. My 35 30 1450 with a 2100 pack wouldn't be enough for that one, ya think? It puts out 297 watts with an APC 9x6E.

Here is another link. It is a duplicate subject message, so it will most likely end.

Why would my motor be too hot to touch flying this plane?

I am running a park 450
35amp esc
11.1v 2100 20c

Would a bigger motor help?
Less battery?

Thanks

Cooling issues, is my guess. Fly it without the cowl and see what it does.

I will try the no cowl thing. I may be over proping. 10 x 7 slow, same as mini pulse. The Edge is 4 to 6 oz heavier. Need a scale. I just got a WattsUp meter. The edge may have more drag also. What about trying a 10 x 3.8 slow? Since I have a few. I order the park 480 to try. Props recommended are 11 x 4.7 slow, 11 x 7 slow & 12 x 6 hd gws.

I'd try the smaller prop and hook the watt meter to it. Can't do electrics without one of them.

Well, I decided to get this plane. I'll be using the 35-30-1450 Rimfire that I have. I'll be using an 1800 and a 2100 pack that I also have on hand. There is a noticable difference in power output between the two. They are different brands with different C ratings so that doesn't suprise me. I'll be using ParkZone digital, metal geared servos.

Just picked the plane up. Looks pretty nice. I'll get some pics up by tomorrow.

Just put the servos in. I had to cut the slots bigger of course. I expected that though. The easiest way to do this that I've found is to use a jig saw blade in your hand. Works great.

Anyone have the new Matt Chapman 580? This looks really nice and a bit bigger. Mike

There's a thread on that plane somewhere around here. I might get that one next. I had the motor and stuff for this size so I went with it.

I did a forum search and the only post I found about it is mine. I found nothing on RC Groups or Wattfyer either. I keep looking. I was at the LHS when it came in and we assembled it ( just the airframe) to hang up. Its a looker. Mike

I have the 480 installed. Should I use a 10x7 sf prop with a 11.1v 2100 20C?

I flew mine. Got two flights in. I left the cowl off and the bottom blew off on take off. I used a 9x6 APC and was right at 300 watts. Wasn't impressed at all. I'm thinking too much drag without the cowl. Then again, hovering wasn't impressive either. 35-35-1450 with a 2100mah battery. AUW 2 pounds, 4oz.

Could you be a bit more specific about your issues? I'm interested in this one and it looks like it might fly well , you knocked off a full pound off the advertised weight. What do you think it needs to be a goo all around performer. I'm not into hard core 3D but would like a snappy aerobatic scale flying plane. Thanks Mike
