Pigi won't hover
 

:(What up? Set up as advertised by Hobby Lobby. 8 cells (11.0 volts no load), 11x4.7, turning about 5600 rpm. Won't even get close to a hover.

Which setup? the PJS 1000? all up weight? you should be well under 1kg if the PJS1000 is to hover it (with a bit of power to spare)

also, which charger do you use? it´s very important to charge the battery so that it is 40-45C when it´s full, then fly at once!! waiting 5min after a charge is worthless...

What battery pack are you using? Sanyo 1700 or Kan 1800 works the best.
As stated by Hobby-Lobby the pjs 1000 draws about 25 amps on 11x4.5 apc.
I have about 9 hours on mine and it is awesome.
I live in NC at 1000 asl 80 + deg.

Don't know who makes the cells, it is the Hobby Lobby NiMH 2150 mAh pack. The PJS 1000 pulls it down to below 7 volts right from the start.

Sounds like the battery pack just can't handle the current.

Try this thread from another discussion group, gentlemen. I think it answers just about any question you may have about this littl Pigi. I got mine a few days ago and was at a complete loss, as this is my first attempt at electric and foam, being and old glow flier. Cliff sent this link to me and it has proven very insightful.

I think you might've gotten bit by the "more mAh == better" fallacy. Different batteries have different internal resistances, but there's no way to tell except by testing. The higher the internal resistance, the less Amps the battery can produce. You have to look at how many Amps your motor setup can draw, and choose a battery that can produce that many Amps.

According to Hobby Lobby's website, the recommended 1700mAh pack for the Pigi 3D is good for 35 Amps peak short-term max, while the 2150mAh pack you chose is only good for 20 Amps peak short-term max. From skimming the Pigi thread linked above, it seems that with the recommended PJS1000 motor, it draws in the mid-20's for Amps at peak. That's more Amps than the 2150 cells can produce, let alone produce on a constant basis, and they knuckle under. Voltage drops, Amps drop, battery gets really hot, plane flies like doggie doo, customer is unhappy... :(

Don't give up on the plane just yet! Get the recommended 1700mAh pack, and you'll have a whole different plane. Talk to the guys at Hobby Lobby; perhaps they'll take the old battery back if you explain to them that you bought it for the Pigi by mistake.

Used a friends lipo and it hovers fine. Still waiting on my batteries.

This is to the guys at Hobby Lobby -who helped me the other day - thanks again- and I got the new FedEx notice on my 550R!
The pic I added is of one of my little Spitballs- a simple, blue foam and spruce model .
The spruce actually works better and is lighter than the Carbon Fiber tubes and rods I tried.
anyway the models weigh 3.5 to 3.8 ozs each, assembled ready for equipment -
which up till now has been the GWS 350s advanced a bit and on various gear/prop combos . the best being the 5.3gear and a 10x7 prop and two Lipos 1200 ma High discharge type.
We will pop the 550r onto this one - -I am guessing that a 8x6 and two Lipos will be decent to start?????
all up weight is 10 ozs for current models.
