RE: Cermark Banshee
Changed my mind about motors.....Will be using a Kontronik FUN 500 27 geared 5.2:1 swinging a 17x10 prop on a 3S apogee.

Atlantae, nice video that you posted! Very good KE performance and the rolls look very axial. Have you got the plane to hover with your setup? If so, how much throttle does it take? This plane is starting to grab my interest. I've been looking for an affordable Electric 3d plane of this size and weight.

RE: Cermark Banshee
Mike, how do you think it would do with your setup if you changed the ratio to 4:1 and the prop to a 16x8? I'm more interested in hover power than speed. I'm trying to stay away from the Hacker motors because of the cost.

RE: Cermark Banshee
I wouldnt change the gearing unless you are going to step up the voltage and run a 4S. You can keep it at 3:1 and change to a 16X8. As a matter of fact, I recommend it as the 16X10 is not the most efficient prop on this setup. However it is what I have (3 of them to be exact). As you move the gearing higher you have to either step up the prop size or step up the voltage to maintain the amps and watts. Kind of like having a BMW in 5th gear with the pedal pegged to the floorboard...then all of a sudden you shift into 7th (if there was such a gear), but the car is giving you all it can with the max horsepower provided....the car will start to slow. Now if a supercharger were installed to give it another couple hundered horsepower to push those extra gears.....Vroooom.

RE: Cermark Banshee
Well, I just want to be able to pull out of a hover with authority so I can save the plane from biting the dust. If your setup provides that, then I would just stick with the 3:1 and throw a 16x8 on there. What kind of run times are you getting with the 3s3p?
|
RE: Cermark Banshee
I thought if I went from a 3:1 to a 4:1 gearing, that would make it easier on the motor, plus it would draw less amps. Does that mean it would produce less thrust/power with all else being equal?
How much clearance does this plane have with the 16 inch prop? Can you fit a 17 inch prop and still be able to land safely? |

This is why a lot of people who fly 3D never use direct drive. Its all about swinging the biggest prop and getting the most thrust. Correct me if im wrong Mr. Parsons TTYL, Andrew T. |

There are some DD setups that will do well on 3D planes, but they are not as efficient as a geared motor. -Mike |
RE: Cermark Banshee
Yeah, I think I will end up going with the brushless CM 600. I saw a post where a guy used a 3s3p, a 16x8 prop, a 5:1 gearbox and the CM 600-BL. He claimed it hovered around half throttle, which is what I'm shooting for. I'll probably try a 3s4p setup with a 17x10 prop and the same gearbox.
Do you know what gear ratio the banchee you saw today was using? Thanks, Clay |

No problem, I confuse myself sometimes. hahah!

Here you go.
Cermark CEM 600BL-2 MEC Superbox 5:1 CC Phoenix 60 APC 16X8 10 GP3300 6V UBEC Hitec HS-85MG |
RE: Cermark Banshee
Won't the built-in BEC circuit in the Phoenix 60 handle his battery pack? I wonder why he added the UBEC..
|
RE: Cermark Banshee
Any plane that I have that runs above 40 amps and 10 cells, I put a UBEC on it. The P60 is rated for 4 servo's on 10 cells with BEC, but that is on the outer edge of where I want to run. I do know people that run 10 cell 500 watt planes with the BEC enabled. I just dont trust it.
-Mike |
RE: Cermark Banshee
And also, if u disable the BEC on the ESC, you can run more cells.

RE: Cermark Banshee
Yes, up to 20 on the 60 amp controller.

RE: Cermark Banshee
How good does this plane 3D compared to something like the Funtana 40? Does it do harriers and elevators with little or no wing wagging? Is it built tough enough to endure countless blenders? If you feel like the Banchee falls short in a certain area, I'd like to know.
I want something as capable as the Funtana 40. This plane is much cheaper than a 3D capable electric Funtana, so thats why I'm here. |
RE: Cermark Banshee
If anyone would be nice enough to look in their manual and tell me what the recommended throws are, I'd appreciate it. I lost my manual somewhere in the pile on my workbench.
Thanks in advance. Edit: Found it. Here it is for anyone else who might be looking.... Per the manual: Ailerons: 1/2" & 25% Expo 1 1/4" & 45% expo Elevator: 3/4" & 25% Expo 2 1/4" & 60% Expo Rudder: 1.0 " & 25% Expo 2" & 45% Expo. CG for 3D is 4.5 to 4.8 inches from the leading edge. |

RE: Cermark Banshee
Wow, that was insane. Obviously the plane can do anything the pilot is capable of.. I think I've just been convinced. To have that kind of capability in an electric plane of that size is unreal. Now I just have to save my money or convince the wife I need an early Christmas present. Hahah!

RE: Cermark Banshee
That power system (in the video) is a Hacker B50 9S with 6.7 ratio gearbox, 3S3P thunder power pack, and 16X10 prop.

RE: Cermark Banshee
Has anyone flown the Banchee on the CEM-600BL -2 with their 4.5:1 planetary box? 3S? 4S?
|
RE: Cermark Banshee
what do you mean "electric plane of that size" . The banchee is actually a rather small plane
