3D Foamy Extra
I just ordered a extra 300lx from 3dfoamy.com, anyone have any experience and/or tips with this plane? I have a Himax 4200 with a gearbox and a 2 cell 1660mah lipo I plan on putting on it along with a phoenix 25, how does that sound?
Thanks! Adam |
RE: 3D Foamy Extra
I do not have the Extra 300LX but that sounds like a good setup. I have a similar one on my E-Flite Tribute. The only thing you may want to change is to switch to a 3 cell battery if you plan on doing 3D flying with it. This will give you more power which would be useful for maneuvers like hovering.
Good luck with your Extra! |
RE: 3D Foamy Extra
Agreed on the 3 cell upgrade... Thanks for the order too!

RE: 3D Foamy Extra
I own a Extra 300L from fancyfoam.com and its awsome! Its my first foamy, and I love it to death. I use a GWS D sized gear box, with a 350 sized motor in it. I have a pixie 20 amp esc, and a 3 cell E-tec Lipo, and it flies awsome! I usually get flight times of around 20 min. or so, unless I practice hovering alot. I would highly recommend to upgrade to 3 cell also, its worth it!

Thanks for the input! I suppose I will have to get another plane to put my 2 cell in... [sm=surprised.gif]. And your welcome for the order!!

RE: 3D Foamy Extra
I am currently building a Extra kit from Levi. Perfect cutting and great quality but I think me and my poor building skills have messed up the spar and wing, might have to cut a new wing out but will wait to the maiden to see.
Thanks Levi! Zimbo |
RE: 3D Foamy Extra
What happened??? (To the spar)
|
RE: 3D Foamy Extra
Just had a closer look at it Levi, basically it is messed.
I messed up on cutting the slot, so the spar didnt sit deep enough. I didnt think it was a problem but now I realise that it is. Will have to get a sheet of depron and cut a new wing probably. Stupid me! Zimbo |
RE: 3D Foamy Extra
That should be fine. my first few I did were the same... didn't seem to make a difference. fly it... let me know what it does.
|
RE: 3D Foamy Extra
Levi,
Have you got a method of grooving the wing for the spar? WOuld love to hear about it if you do! Zimbo |
RE: 3D Foamy Extra
Best way is what is show on the plans... cut 2 slots, then pull out the foam... drag the spar through the slot... wala!
|
RE: 3D Foamy Extra
Levi,
I tried cutting two slots, 4mm apart and then gouging out the foam with the spar, didnt work LOL:) I tried fitting the wing before but the spar just sticks too far up. I took the spar out and I will try fixing it......wish me luck I am guessing that the spar is flush with the top surface of the wing? Zimbo |
RE: 3D Foamy Extra
Yup... But if not totally flush, thats ok... just get the wing straight and flat...

RE: 3D Foamy Extra
Does anybody have a pic of this airplane with an axi motor? This is all new to me and any help would be greatly appreciated.
|
RE: 3D Foamy Extra
I used a soldering iron and melted the foam out. It worked out alright.
|
RE: 3D Foamy Extra
Y do you want a pic of one with an AXI? it looks just like the other ones but with an AXI hanging off the front
|
RE: 3D Foamy Extra
I asked for a pic because I'm a little confused and obviously seeing a picture would greatly help. I've never seen one and I never had a foamy before, flying mostly gas powered engines. Pardon my ignorance. I have Levi's(3dfoamy) AXI mount. I suppose the T shaped mount should be epoxied to the front of the cross section of the fuselage. But if I do this, the mount won't even touch the stick(curve-shaped) but only the cross section of the foam and wont be getting any support from it. Is this the way to do it? The manual have a lot of pics to mount a Hacker but not for the AXI. All other installs that I saw always have the mount touching the stick somehow for support. Suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think this is the one you are using? Should work for you no problem. Seems easy enough. |
RE: 3D Foamy Extra
I saw the discussion about cutting a slot for a 4mm composite tube so I thought I'd share my technique. I use a dremel with a router base ($15) and a 3/16 ball shaped cutter. Slowest speed and move slowly too. Works great in bluecor; I'm not sure about Depron. Good luck.

RE: 3D Foamy Extra
Mabey try that on a scrap piece of depron to make sure its ok before you do the airplane.
|
RE: 3D Foamy Extra
Got it! Thanks for the help guys.

RE: 3D Foamy Extra
Its here!!!!
Thanks Levi! The kit looks great! |
RE: 3D Foamy Extra
Where do u fly "Iflyprops?" U ever go to Graves R/C?? Or fly at Trotter's park?
TTYL, Andrew T. |
RE: 3D Foamy Extra
I make it over to graves occasionally...and usually end up leaving with my wallet alot lighter...
Is Trotters park the one almost right off 417 with the baseball fields and a smallish clearing with a lake at the end?? If so, yes I have flown there... I have mainly been flying at the Home Depot on Alafaya, currently researching other prospects though. -Adam |
RE: 3D Foamy Extra
I'm confused with the elevator setup... Levi indicates a pull/pull setup and I have installed the control horns for that setup...but how are you supposed to do that with the way the servo is set in the fuselage? I'll have some pics up today sometime... I know it would be easy to do a push/pull but now I have an errant horn on the top of my elevator!
Thanks! Adam |
