Which foamy should I get?
 

I am kind of new to RC flying and want to get into 3d since my field is getting filled up with houses. I started out with aerobird challenger, then e-starter, and new I have a f-27 stryker. I would like something that I could fly in my front or back yard so it should be able to take a little wind. I still have my 4 channel radio and a bunch of servos and stuff from my e-starter. So please give me some suggestions on some foamies.

check out the hobby lobby yak55 foamy, it cost $19.90, brushless 400 outrunner $29.95, and it fly's great. go to the yak 55 tread and also hobby lobby web site they have alot of cool stuff

the 40" 3dfoamy's handle the wind awesome. Look into them.

I am leaning toward the yak55 but there are so many foamies it is difficult to make a decision. Also, I would like to go the cheap route until I figure 3d out but any other advice is great.

Marzo, they will be coming back out soon, and there are some hobby shops that carry them. If your LHS doesnt, have them call 3dfoamy and get hooked up!

Go with the Eflight Yak 54, just a kick-ass plane altogether...

3dfoamys are awesome planes too, if you are willing to put up with 3dfoamy to get one...

Plenty of foamys that can 3-D. Avoid 3dfoamy.com. There are better ones at a lower cost.

awmorris, small foamies are a challenge to fly...quite tricky....

go to Lowes/Home Depot and buy some Blucor/Fan Fold foam... download some plans and build your own.....

they WILL break....
$50 is quite a bit for a chunk of foam....

the Hobby Lobby Yak is an option too (I love mine) at $20 you pretty much can't beat it....

I went ahead and plunged for the yak55. Figured if I got good at 3d I would get something more expensive later. Started to put it together last night but the CA I have is not working well. I have super gold +. It takes along time to dry and doesn't really last. Is there a better kind of CA or any other glue that I should use?

You have to use accelerator on foam or it takes forever[:o] Just make sure it's foam safe too:eek:

Yep...make sure it is the foam safe. odorless CA and use the accelerator sparingly.......

Got all the foam glued. What is the prog-card for? Looks like some settings need to be put into the motor or maybe the speed control. Is the prog-card a one time thing or do I need to have it connected all the time? Are there any recommended settings I should use? As far as the jumpers, should the pin be the setting or is the jumper the setting? That's all the questions for now.

Ok, I got all the foam together. Now what is the prog-card? Is it a one time thing or does it need to be connected all the time? Is the bar pin the setting or the jumper the setting? nuff questions

sorry about he double post. I got all the stuff that hobby-lobby recommended. It is a jeti controller. I have read all the instructions and it says what the settings are but doesn't describe what the setting are for. example: brake on/brake off,timing,throttle curve,cut off type.

AW - I scanned in my instruction sheet for the programming card. It isn't much but does tell you what each setting does.

Thanks, got the controller programmed. I hooked everything up to see get all the horns straight and the prop is spinning the wrong way. I tried to reverse it through the radio but then it just beeps and then goes full throttle until I pull the battery. Any help would be appreciated. All the servos are working fine.

To make the prop spin the other way just switch 2 of the 3 wires going from the ESC to the motor (assuming this is a brushless setup).

Thanks Billz. That fixed it. This thing blew envelopes off the counter all the way across the kitchen. Got the ailerons working now and ready to start on the rudder and elevator. The instructions say to cut the metal rod and then glue the carbon rod to that. Do I just pour CA all over it? Doesn't seem right to me.

Well I have been up in the air twice and crashed twice. Even though I crashed I flew for probably about 5 minutes. It was a little tail heavy but that made it easy to hover. I had the most trouble keeping it horizontal. The thing spins so quick and it is very difficult to not overcorrect. Probably has something to do with my cheap radio with no expo. Anyway, the last crash resulted in the tail braking off and losing one of the carbon rods. Guess I'll have to buy another plane for parts. I'll CA tail back on tonight and maybe I can get another carbon rod at the LHS. Thanks for the help on getting it flying.
