Reflection 3D building and flying!!
Hello[sm=biggrin.gif]
I just got my reflection 3D and I'm like half way done with it. I'm installing the wings.. So how does it do? I haven't ever flown flat foamies ( but i have 3d experience) It really seems nice :) Any recommendations ? Im planning to go with this setup... I haven't bought the electrics yet so... 3-cell 640 pack rimfire Hs-55 servos 8-amp ESC or silver series 12 ESC about 10 x 4.5 prop... which would be the best reciver for it? help recommended! Paul/ SS2P |
RE: Reflection 3D building and flying!!
I have a turmoil, it's got the rimfire and BL-8. It's got plenty of power for the plane, but if you really want the rimfire, I'd go with a 12 amp esc. After you read about the motor you find out that 8 amps is good enough for the prop they reccomend, but if you want to do anything else, go with the 12 amp ESC, I think that's a much safer choice. I haven't flown mine yet, I'm a bit of a newbie, and I already wrecked one on my first attempt. I have the JR ultralite receiver in mine, a 6 channel, it's a great receiver if you have a JR radio... In my other plane I have a GWS 4 ch micro reciever, some people say it sucks but in my expereince (this plane I have some experience with) it's fine, and it's only like 20 bucks!!! The 640 is a good match for the plane, I'd reccomend it. If you have issues with the hinge clips, just get some hinge tape and use that instead, the hinges have a tendancy to break. Good luck.

RE: Reflection 3D building and flying!!
This little plane rocks. I am just getting ready to build my second. I am going with a light outrunner on this one. I used a himax 2015-4166 on the last one.
The only problem I had with my first one was aileron throws. It ended up I had accidentally gotten some glue into the joint where the servo arm and z-bend meet. It still rolled pretty fast. Another thing to be aware of is to make sure and use an exacto knife and ream the control horns. It shows you in the manual how to do this in a pro tip or something like that. Many people have busted many of these. Just ream out both sides and you will be ok. |

RE: Reflection 3D building and flying!!
hi,
at first im gonna go with 640 pack cuz i don't want to change anything... later, if i find that flight times are too short i will grt a bigger pack! And I also see that 12-amp esc would work better. I will get it. Paul |
RE: Reflection 3D building and flying!!
I haven't really timed it, but it seems to be somewhere from 7 to 10 minutes, next time I fly I'll see if I can remember to time it.

RE: Reflection 3D building and flying!!
hi,
since my local hobby shop is out of rimfire motors im planning to go with new setup: KMS 21/31 outrunner impulse 480/900 mah lipo pack KMS 18- amp ESC 10 x 4.8 prop Cirrus cs101 4 gram servos Cirrus mrx-4 II 4ch Rx so what do u think? it seems quite good and motor is backmounted, so i won't have any trouble w/ that.. I seriously hope it will work... HOPE.. I'm buying my stuff from hobby ppl check this out http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/700023.asp Paul |
RE: Reflection 3D building and flying!!
HI,
again, I need help now... Which receiver would work with hs-55 servos? It has to be small and max rice could be about... 30 bucks Would castle berg* receiver work?? Help needed Paul |
RE: Reflection 3D building and flying!!
The servos should work with just about any receiver, it has more to do with if the receiver will work with your radio. I can't really tell you anything about that gear, I'm not familiar with it. Hopefully someone who is can be more helpful.

RE: Reflection 3D building and flying!!
I use the gws reciever with my futaba 7chp transmitter. has worked great and a suggestion on the put together. i didnt put the wing bar on the back of the wing where the hinges go onto it and used tape like the ikarus planes. and also used the ikarus hardware . seemed to be more reponsive and easier. which ever way you do it have fun. my set up was
rimfire 8 amp esc hs55's gws reciever 730 t.p. lipo 9x4-7 prop futaba 7chp Cade |
RE: Reflection 3D building and flying!!
HEY, :D:D:D
LOL, i just got back from hobby shop and im so happy lol. I got basically all i needed MY gear is: rimfire BL-8 ESC 9x 3.8 prop HFS-04-MG reciver (love it! super small and effective) HS-55 servos Impulse power 900 Mah 3sp pack (only 1.7 oz.!!!) I'm gonna start buliding and flying!! I post pictures later GTG! Paul |
RE: Reflection 3D building and flying!!
Sounds good, hope the build goes well for you!

RE: Reflection 3D building and flying!!
I have my second one nearly built. I forgot to snap on the elevators to the horizontal stab and now have to figure out how to repair that. I think I can just cleanly cut the foam and glue it back together when done.

RE: Reflection 3D building and flying!!
HeY!
I just finished building the kit. I glued all the servos in place and it seems perfect! Only bad thing is that my micro receiver doesn't want to take in my old crystal! I'm gonna fly it with my old big receiver. although its big, it's super light! So I will post pic's of flying if I get ready. I just centred the servos. Any suggestions on first flight?! I have flown a 3D plane before but still.... I'm kinda scared. Superkaos said that you most turn with rudder?! I have flown only planes which turn with ailerons. dno.. I think i will do fine. Is 3-cell 900 mah 12C pack okay with BL-8 ESC? and I want to use the stock prop + 9 x 3.8 prop. Will it work? Paul |
RE: Reflection 3D building and flying!!
LMAO
the pushrods won't go in the clevis?! I just broke one pushrod... [&:]:( But I think it has enough lenght to strectch the aileron.. Any suggestions? I tryed using sand paper... tryed using everything [:@] |
RE: Reflection 3D building and flying!!
Hey!
I got to the part were I have to set the brake on or off... which one should i choose.. (im new to electrics) Rofl i have problems with my ailerons.. The servo won't center them as needed. It's cuz the ailerons are too hard to move? anyone had the same problem? |
RE: Reflection 3D building and flying!!
I set the brake ON, I land in the grass so I like to stop the motor. Your control surfaces can be tight if the clevises are not reamed enough. I did that on MY first flat out [:@]

RE: Reflection 3D building and flying!!
Hi,
putting the pushrod to clevis is total BS. I'm trying to do it for the whole day+ my fingers bleed so badly. :([:@][:@][:@] I started at 7:30 am and now it's 4:00 pm and basically in the same step..putting this plane together is totally sad. I hope flying is worth it. Paul |

RE: Reflection 3D building and flying!!
Hi,
I probably have to redo the whole thing cuz i can't get the pushrods out. If i pull too hard then the whole thing will break.. I just have to buy servos like HS-56 MG than it will just do it... Omg I'm still so angry. I can barely type cause of my fingers lol i have bad english cuz i just came here Paul |
RE: Reflection 3D building and flying!!
Yea, thosepush rods suck about as much as anything can suck. The way I Found most effective was to put the push rods in the z bend clevices before putting the zbends into the control horns, you just have to estimate. The way I do that is to sharpen the end of the push rods, then I push them into the clevice by holding the clevice against my desk, then I hold the clevice in such a way the I can grab the push rod, an push it through the clevice, then do the same to the other side while noting which way the z bends need to be in orientation to the control horns, any way you do it though, it's still a PITA! Normally though I get so much CA on my figers before that part so I can't feel the push rods poking me anyways ;) I hope you get it assembled the rest of the way without to much of a problem, I just took my Turmoil out today, and I got my first chance to fly on a really calm day and use my 3d trims, that thing will fly knife edge harriers almost by itself. Although when I was fly and performed a particularly violent maneuver, I think it was a snap roll at full throttle after a dive, the firewall holding my rimfire broke off, so I made a nice and easy dead stick landing, it was about as perfect as a landing can go when your motor and esc are dangling by it's reciever plug, forunately, the esc didn't burn out it the time it took me to realize that the motor had tangled itself up in it's own wires. Otherwise it flew phenominally! I dare say it is in fact worth the huge PIA these things are to build, although, every time you build one, you get way better at it for the next time. Good luck!

RE: Reflection 3D building and flying!!
hey,
I just finished... :D but still, my ailerons and rudder won't center?! It seemed to move quite easy to movethe control surfaces but for rudder, I can see how pushrod bends a little any good suggestions? thanks' Paul |
