Flat Foamie setup needed for Competition
 

Hi All,

Just introduced to the new and exciting world of foam 3D competition flying...Been battling with what I call flying like a "boat" How do the big boys set up their planes so they seem like they are on "rails" Mine just seem to rock like a boat and does not track well. I know there is no airfoil to help but it seems soooo easy on the videos (guess that is why they make the big bucks, huh?" Anybody have knowledge on this? I am presently flying the Rhythm and the Aito V2. Thanks in advance....

Well, you do need to set them up as light as possible, using glue sparingly all over. Also, use very light equipment, like ~300-400 mah 2 cell lipos.

And make sure there is virtually no play in the control surfaces for rock solid control. Also, you may want to check out Fancy Foam. Generally, the F3P planes are the choice of the pros when it comes to indoor foamies. The Gernot Yak 55m seems to be a popular favorite among a lot of people looking to get into precision flying.

Thanks for the response....My Aito look alike is weighing in at 217 grams the 360 Mah 3 cell 20C. I am using a electrifly 28-22-1380 100watt motor. I have a GWS rx and 10A Castle ESC. swinging a 9x4.7SF prop. I saw an article which showed the top winners equipment list. They seem to be at 180grams so I am in the ballpark. I copied their equipment as "if it is good for the goose......" I made sure that all surfaces are tight and no slop. I have them double tape hinged with the BlendDerm Tape. There is NO play in the servos to control surface links. Everything is Parallel and Perpendicular as it should be. I have 35% Expo and the throws are just as the book says on low rate and the high rate is a bit higher than the manual says. any problem with the above data?

If you check out the winners circle at a lot of European F3P events you'll see the Clik! is a very popular plane across the pond. Precision is it's bag and it does it well. Might want to check them out. Northeast Sailplanes sells them here in the US.
