Default U Can Do .46 Electric Conversion

Ihave been always been into 3delectric parkflyers and foamies. Someone gave memy first glo fuel plane which was a racer typeplane. Iam not into thistype of flying so Idecided to get me a UCD .46and swap everythingover to it. After messing with it running a 55AX, then a 91FX, Irealized that Idon'tcare for glopowered3D capable planes. Iam sure a 4 stroke powerplant might be better than a 2stroke, but Idon't want to spend all that money and find that Idon't like a 4 stroke in my plane neither.

Iam wanting to convert this UCD.46 to electric. Ihave a motorthats rated for1150w, and an esc rated for 60A, and (2)3s 3000 20C liposlaying around. Ifigured Ican get roughly166+ watts/lb with the electronics Ihave.

My problem is that this plane has a one piece wing and it doesn't have a removable canopy so Ican easily swap out batteries without taking the wing off everytime. Ihave a few ideas for making it work, but Iwould like to see if anyone has converted this UCD.46 already and have some pics to show.

So if anyone has converted their UCD .46 to electric please share your modifications with some pics, and maybe even some videos of your converted UCD.

Aloha,
Les

Default RE: U Can Do .46 Electric Conversion

Idid my first attempt to convert my .46 UCDto electric. I tried to keep the need to modify anything on the orginal airframeto accommodate the electric powerplant. All the components Iused to convert to electric are from HK and came out of a friends crashed Reactor.

Motor - Turnigy AerodriveXp 42 SKSeries42-50 650Kv / 1150W
ESC -HK SSSeries 60 -70A
SBEC- Turnigy 5A(2-7S lipo)
Battery - Turnigy 3s 3000mAh 20-30C (2X in series)

AUW after mod less prop is 6.625lbs. (Imay add a separate lipo for rx power later, but for now Iam runnin off my flight batteries.

Iwill try to prop this combo to get 170W/lb @ 50Aon 6S. Idon't have an onboard data logger or power meter, so my values are on the bench only.

Is 170w/lb too little, too much or shouldbe just fine?

I'll try to postmore info and pics as soon as Ican.

Aloha,
Les
