Well I couldn't stand it any longer...I went and purchased the Diabolic.
Couple of questions for you guys who own/fly this plane.
I have a Saito 91 for power...is this going to be plenty of power?
How are you mounting the 4 strokes - inverted or to the side?
What servo's are you using?
How does it fly - better than expected?
Any info would be greatly appriciated.
Thanks,
Eric

I finally got mine finshed. I used a Saito 100 on mine and it is a good power match. Plane weighs 7lbs 3 ozs. I mounted the engine inverted. I am using a JR 8411 on the elevator and Multiplex royals on the ailerons and rudder. The plane flies just as good or a little better than I had hoped. It slows up to about 1/2 of a walking pace to land and it does some wild stuff with that horizontal stab set-up! I was expecting it to snap-out of a lot of stuff on high rate elevator, but the thing hangs in there. I only have about 4 flights on mine so far, but I am loving it! It does waterfalls, elevators, and walls better than any plane I've ever seen. It is a real fun plane and I'm looking forward to playing with it some more.

Congrats to you guys! I'm so jealous. Please keep us posted on how they fly. I have been boppin' off and on that site, looookin at them! Curiosity is just killing me on how they fly etc. Do they float like a plane with lots of wing area? How well do they harrier and hover?
Thanks,
John Wells

John, As you can see in the pics on the website, this plane has a big wing with a lot of wing area and it will glide forever. We have a fun-fly coming up at our club and I'll probably use this plane for the climb and glide event just because it does glide (float) so well.
I am not real good at harriers and hovering yet, but I can do them a little. This plane seems to be great it both. It locked in on the Harriers and the wings were steady with no rocking (and this was a fairly windy day). I was able to hover it as well, the plane can hover better than I can. I'm at the point where I can hover for about 10 - 15 seconds before I loose it.
The plane is built very light, yet very strong, and has exceded my flying expectations of it. I highly recommend this plane if you are looking for something a little different to goof around with and try some wild manuevers.

I am just about finished with the Diabolic now...just need to attach the Canopy hatch and I will be ready.
I have Hitec 645's on the Rudder and Elevator and 525's on the ailerons. I also installed an Expert glow driver.
Jim - what prop are you using on that 100. I was thinking of trying a 15x4w on the 91 or the old faithful 14x6.
By the way...did you notice any play in the elevators?
Thanks,
Eric
I will post some pics and video once I fly.

Eric, I have a 15x4 APC prop on it now, but might go back to a 14x6 APC, because I think I remember the engine having quicker acceleration with the 14x6. The elevator was fine, but I would definitely use a good servo on it. I am not familiar with Hitec servos, but I used a JR 8411.......plenty of torque and holding power.

That's neat. I like the spider web thing too. Here's my engine questions; I have a strong ST 90. Would that be a good match? Also, what size engine would you consider to be on the small side that would still fly this one (.46 etc.), and which one on the large side? What size fuel tank will the tank compartment hold? If I used a 90, I would probably want to install at least a 10 ouncer. Is there plenty of ground clearance for your 14 inch props? I've been looking at this plane for a while but didn't know anyone with one to ask questions about it.
Thanks,
John Wells

Based on my experience with Diablotin, I am sure that the APC 4 inch pitch W series are the best way to go. 13x4W for YS 63, 14x4W for OS 70 Surpass and Irvine 72, 15x4W (or even 16x4W) for the 91 size engines.
Perhaps this gives perspective to you. I fly Diablotin std. at 3kg with Irvine 72 and APC 14x4. this combo is totally unlimited but not spectacular. Now that the weather is becoming hotter, I am thinking of upgrading to OS 91 FX.
Another possibility is that I buy Diablolic to the OS... I am perfectly happy with my Diablotin but I would like to try out what that all moving elevator can do!

John,
I would think that a 90 would be a good match. Don't ask me which engine to use on the small size, as I am one who believes that there is no such thing as too much power.
You really need to use the tank that comes with the plane as it fits in formers in the fuse, I am guessing that it is about a 10 oz tank.
I have plenty of ground clearance for my 15 inch prop.
The gear on this plane is a little weak, but the plane slows down so good to land that it shouldn't be a problem unless you dumb-thumb it.
