Too much. Keep it light with a 90-100 stroker and it'll fly like a kite.

I strongly agree with falcons. I have a 91 ys on mine and its plenty... You start adding too much weight and it wont be worth a crap......The trick is to keep the wing loading D

You would also take a BIG risk in over speeding the air frame and losing all your performance...My 2 or 3 cents...

this pic was taken with a os 91fx...Later equiped with the YS 91 FZ

Thanks for the info guys.... I'm leaning toward the 100 or the 120 saito.. weight shouldn't be an issue and should have plenty of power.

I have a Saito .91 in mine and it feels a bit weak for 3D in my opinion. I have thought a YS 110 would be great...not too heavy and LOADS of power.

That's if you don't mind burning fuel.

Default Engine Question

I got this from the U - Can - Do .60 manual:

NOTE: Flying on the OS 1.20FS caused more tail weight to
be needed, made it so the plane would not sit still on the
runway and made it difficult to maintain a hover. The
hovering was hindered by using such a low throttle setting
that the poor throttle resolution made it very difficult to stay
in one spot. I do not recommend a 120 4-stroke or larger
engine if performance aerobatics are desired.

According to the manual they tested 4 engines

O.S .91FS W/O Pump
W/O Muff. 21.3oz
W/Muff. 23.0oz

O.S .91FX
W/O Muff. 19.42oz
W/Muff. 24.3oz

O.S .61FX
W/O Muff. 19.4oz
W/Muff. 23.6oz

O.S FS1.20S W/O Pump
W/O Muff. 30.5
W/Muff. 31.17

OK Ive read on here that the plane does come out tail heavy. seems to me that if you used the 1.20 that you would not need to add as much weight if any in the tail to balance does this sound right or am I missing something.? I'm going to be using the SAITO FA1.20S on mine 28.8oz w/muff. shouldn't have to add much weight if any should just be able to move my radio gear around I'd rather do that than add dead weight to the nose or tail.

No weight was required on mine with a Saito 91. The plane balanced well behind recommended at 6" but I think the plane flies great at that location. The radio gear was placed right next to the throttle servo. With the 120 you may be able to offset the weight by moving the battery.

Ryan (or anybody else who has tried), how far back do you think it is safe to move the battery? I have a YS .91 in mine with the battery mounted at the trailing-edge of the wing (there is a former there). It balances almost exactly at recommended CG. During construction, I cut a hatch in the bottom of the plane with the intention of moving the batter back much farther (since I have keep a close eye on the UCD threads here). Now I am wondering if the fuse has enough strength back there to support a 5-cell 1650 pack? Anybody tried this?

Mine has a saito 150 on it, and I moved the battery 6 volt 1000 nimh all the way back to the tail. I too originally cut an access hatch in mine behind the TE and had the battery there for about a month. I reinforced the cut area with a couple of pieces of balsa across the fuse, and used them to help hold the battery in place with foam and a velcro tie wrap. After going with the 150, I then moved the battery all the way back to the tail Its wrapped in foam, and hasnt moved yet. I used the hole I cut in at the bottom of the fuse for my rudder servo to slip in my battery. The overall weight increase is not too bad witth the 150. this is the third engine I've put on it. I do have about 1 1/2 oz of lead on the tail right now, because I have my tank mounted in the stock location. Once I put either a cline or a 2 oz header tank up front, I'm going to move mine back to on or near the cg. I'm able to get 12-16 minutes out of a stock tank, even more if I'm just putting around the pattern.

I'm able to turn an apc 17/6 prop on it with no problems what so ever. The only problem I've had is my canopy broke during a couple of very hard blenders. So its without a canopy. I havent run the engine too much with the cowl this summer (because its been really hot n humid), but will once it gets cooler in the fall.

Hope this helps.

Default prop size SAITO 1.20S

Can any one recommend a good prop for this engine.? one that wont over stress the airframe.
