The G62 can be lightened up considerably by putting electronic ignition on it and removing the crank stub and all of the associated spring starter from the rear. (Steel is heavy) It is capable of making 30+ lbs of thrust so that is no problem. Trim the fat and it should haul around a number of good 30% 3D ships. The Extreme Flight Extra 260 is probably on the high end for weight as is their Yak (But they will 3D OK with the G62). 3D Hobby Shop has some very nice 50cc size stuff including the 89" AJ Slick. Pilot RC has some great stuff as well including the SBach 342. There are others and I'm sure folks will join in with some of their personal favs. Look for something 17.5 lbs or under and you'll be happy.

Find a guy that goes by the screen name antique. he will be able to tell you all you need to know about getting the 62 hooked up

I'll let ya know when we actually design a 260
as for the Yak...
the 88" is designed around the DA 50 and now being flown with the DA60... due to the weight... the 62, while it will fly the planes fine... may not be the best option...

Extra aces is saying, basically I was right with the original choice of the Blimp
start saving helium now !
i don't see the point in spending the money on modding the G 62 to be slightly lighter and better when 50cc engines such as the DLE 55 is not vary expensive in comparison.
thats my openion.

There are some airframes, pick something that has a short nose like a CAP, where many end up tail heavy with light engines, or other planes that need some weight up front. The lightened version will obviously help with power to weight. A CG without adding weight anywhere is key.
Also 3D does not need rocket pull out from hovers, plenty of fun flying and moves can be had with moderate power, while maintaining a good CG and keeping weight and wingloading within range. Staying under 18 pounds and using the best efficient prop is ideal. If you fly at higher altitude, you may need to step up to more power.
If you got $ to spend go DA 60 or 3W.
The DLE 55 has many happy owners and puts out the power. I have a late model one and find it a bit coarse compared to the others and its very loud on stock muffler. But for the $ it will likely give you the thrust needed.

For the other poster,
As for the G62 being "slightly" lighter after putting it on a diet, that's all a matter of opinion. I managed to get more than a pound off my G26 going to EI and there is certainly more to be had on the 62 than the 26. A pound is a bunch of weight and the G62 is one tough engine.
Edited for spelling.

RE: Best 3D with Zenoah G-62?
im flying a used 88 inch extream flight yak with a g62 clone. mt62 and a few of the guys i fly with now have a new respect for the g62 hovers great, pull out is fine with a vess 22a, the zenoha like to turn up the rpms vs dle, i have both engines and can tell you the g62 will outlast the dle, ive flone one g62 for 8 years and it still runs like a topjust my 2 cents worth,
